Umm, look at the big picture. It's PADS, not hard armor. The shoulder pads are made up of 1mm thick plastic, then it's soft padding. There is no arm pads, or lower let pads. Football/Soccer is a game of skill ...you cant compare it to a setplay sport like American football ( why didnt you just call it Americna Rugby!? ...would save confusion ...besides you dont really use your feet in it anyway lol )

I don't usually follow soccer durring the regular matches, but I do enjoy the world cup.  But USA got super pwnzerd.  My country sucks, I was really hoping they would do better, but I guess there was a reason that the Czech team was ranked No. 2  Oh well, my second favorite is jolly old England, how did they do?

And I'm American and I think our football is a pussy sport compared to rugby.  Have you ever played rugby Zanth?  That stuff is crazy, and you can't compare American footbal to soccer, one is a contact sport where all you do is try to knock the other team down, the other is all about intense ball control.
