I play it from time to time, most of the time: mods like USI, but not gonna buy a new BF, if it runs on this engine smile

Compare BF 2042 to BF Vietnam.  It's the same rehash, the 1.5 product.  You get a little bit of a better engine, some gameplay gimmicks, etc.  How many mods moved from BF1942 to BFVietnam and drew in a large fan base and were successful?

All I know is I and the majority of BF1942 vets were playing Wake Island long after BF Vietnam cooled off and became even lamer with less players.

That's hardly a comparable situation, at least you can't assume it is at this point.  All of your points are being made off of assumptions, which have an extremely large range for error.  Who's to say that the entire BF2 community aren't going to move to BF2142?  In all honesty, you can make assumptions, even based on the past, but the future could be a change.  Just because you have a bad past doesn't mean your future may be just the same.  You can obviously make an educated assumption that it will be so, but it is still nothing but a supposition.  The only way to make the best decision would be to make the decision after you have had a chance to experience the game.
