Topic: Lights Out

Another Arc idea in the works. I brought this up a bit in another thread, but I've thought about it a little more, and and thought I might elaborate a little. I've always thought it's the little thigns in a game that really effect the game's atmosphere and feel. Little things like quality graphics, nice statics, good music, and a very interactive enviroment. Bf2's very interactive in a lot of ways, destroyable fences and installations, every viechle is useable, but what about lighting? After all, lighting plays a huge part in warfare, especially in urban warfare. So why not make lights a variable instead of a static? Something that would impact the outcome of a battle. Indoor, and outdoor street lights might be created as destroyable objects very similar to the commander asset objects, like the radar with the spinning dish. But instead of a spinning dish, they could emmit light. Simply, when destroyed, the light goes out. This could be applied in several different ways, first off each light or street light might be single seperate objects per light. So they could be blasted out oneby one. Or, maybe they could all be linked. Like inside one building you could have ceiling lights, but they're all linked as one object, maybe by a wire which is part of the object as well, anyway, all these parts of the object are invunerable to damage, but they're is one part which isn't, the circuit braker outside the building. So place charges there, and all the lights inside (which are all one object with the circuit braker) are down. That would certaintly have a neat effect, especially in an urban setting. Imagine being a rebel squad waiting inside a building covering the door, when the lights wink out, and the stormies come in guns blazing. Especially if there are portable lights the troops could use, like flashlights on rifles, or in an urban setting civilian flashlights sitting on counters. Just food for thought.

Re: Lights Out

lol this sounds very css
bf2 does not support portable lights (UNLIKE QUAKEWARS WOOOOOT)
in addition I believe you cant turn off lights as the engine simply does not work that way

Re: Lights Out

Very good idea. Really adds a whole lot more strategy to the game. Hopefully the FS team can figure something out.

Re: Lights Out

Idon't see why you couldn't do lights. Muzzle flashes light up the area around you don't they? So just make a weapon that looks like a flashlight (or some kind of star wars equivilant) that shoots harmless invisible bullets, but crank up that muzzle flash like crazy. So you hold down the trigger an u get a solid beam. Or something... Maybe something similar for the stationary lights, like the rotating dish. But instead of rotating a dish it shoots the flash light gun. smile That sounded odd.

Re: Lights Out

well, destroyable fences, I didn't see any yet in BF2, I only know about bridges that u can blow up, but it is also the only thing that's interactive

there is a mod, who makes every map a night map and I think they have headlights, but don't know if they are static of dynamic
