Re: Capitol Ship Defenses

Here is an idea: All doors should be indestructable. On both sides of the blast door there could be a large destructable (knife) wall acess panel. once the panel is removed there could be several wires going to different places on the inside. The attacker would have to figure out which wire to cut, or button to press, to open the door. If he cuts or activates the wrong wire it would trigger an explosion that kills him, if he cuts or activates the right wire it opens the door, but the door only remains open for ten seconds if it is set as "closed" from the bridge of the capital ship. There could also be a switch next to every door that manually closes it until the attacker slices into it or the bridge crew reopens it. Every time the door closes the panels would respawn with a new form wireing, The attacker cant just be able to cut the same wire every time or it would be too easy. If the wire system works by cutting and not button pushing or switching then one of the kits should have a laser cutter to give them an advantage over players trying to open the door with a clumsy knife.

Here is Han doing trying to open a door by hotwiring it.

Re: Capitol Ship Defenses

Thats a very fantastic and orignal idea! I really really like this. There could be a heavy duty locked access panel over the wire box thing, that might require explosives to remove. This could be desctructable. Then with that thing blasted off the engineers can try to figure it out. A very good idea. 10 points for u sir wookie. But repeated explosions might be a bit odd (who's reloading the booby trap blast thing?). How about the ill fated hacker is electrocuted instead?
The only thing that might be odd is the attackers going through all that effort, only to have it close in 10 seconds. I mean it does make sense, seeing as the bridge would keep sending the close signal to it. How about having it so they're are destructable door closing pistons, only vunerable (to explosives) when the door has been opened? Like there can be a small hollow place inside the doors where it's sandwitched. When these are blown, the door cannot close again until an engineer comes down to repair it manually. But again, very good idea.

Re: Capitol Ship Defenses

Well it could be longer than ten seconds, but i was thinking that the attackers should have to secure the door. Maybe there can be a switch on the defenders side of the door that the attackers can use to lock it open until someone manually closes it... Maybe the defender has to rewire it now? I was thinking electrocution, but an explosion just seemed simpler, it could be an explosion that represents electrocution, but instead of fire graphics it could have a mini version of the emp grenade going off. Not every door pannel should require explosives, but special ones should, like the one to the bridge, or the one to a ships armory. The best thing about this is that the door isnt actually damaged. With most objects on BF2 once they are destroyed they are destroyed, or an engineer has to fix them, but this way the doors can remain a factor in battle, and be much more fun/suspenseful to open instead of simply mounting charges on them... for those that cant figure out where the wires are going, pray and cut.

Re: Capitol Ship Defenses

Aw, in the other thread I just posted my ideas on blast doors.

I think that if you blast the control panel of the door, then the door will be stuck at whatever position its in. I think only one side should be able to open and close the large blast doors that take a long time to open and close, but either side should be able to operate the smaller doors that are still laser invulnerable.

Say youre rebel and want to keep the stormtroopers from boarding your frigate, so you have a closed blast door. You just shoot the blast door control panel with a laser when its closed, you seal the stormtroopers on the other side, because they cant even get at the control panel to repair it.

Hey! Maybe you could have a fusion cutter...remember at the start of Episode IV, the stormtroopers cut through the blast door? The larger and thicker the door, the longer it would take, and you could even open the blast doors and pop the guy cutting at em to slow them down.

But if the imperials are opening the door and you want to gain access to the other side, simply shoot the control panel while the door is open, and it will be stuck at least partially open. Until the imperials get an engineer out to repair it and can close again.

I think limiting it to C4 or engineers being the only ones able to fiddle with doors would limit the fun. Han solo blasted plenty of computer stuff in the classic movies, he shouldnt need c4 just for a door!

Re: Capitol Ship Defenses

Ok we have two threads discussing the same thing and of all things doors lol. All ideas are great and so far I think we can all agree that there should be a control panel. How about this: You can either shoot the control panel or hot wire it. Very short summary for some very long and good ideas.

Re: Capitol Ship Defenses

I like the idea of cutting the wires, but is that even possible? It would be really neat to see that happen. No matter how the doors are implimented, this is what I think should be added:

Lights on the bridge to indicate what door is closed, open.

Doors should be able to resist blaster fire.

Re: Capitol Ship Defenses

Well i was thinking destructable objects, you know... like an oil barrel, but destructable with a knife or laser cutter. one of the destructable wires sets off a trigger that opens the door if it is destroyed, the the others are linked to a trigger that sets off a deadly explosion that looks like electrocution. If the devs can't do this then it can be mini switches or buttons linked to each wire that you have to choose from. it would have the same results based on which wire you choose. We already know it is possible to open a door by destroying an object in 2142 from what we have seen in the trailers.

After The door closes the Panel would have to reset itself (respawn) randomly to a different layout of wires, obviously you dont want everyone to know to cut the red wire every time and it always opens the door. You have to figure out which wire triggers the door opening based on what components it comes from and where it goes and that changes every time the door resets. The door should also reset every time someone is electrocuted.
