Topic: Combining badges and custom kits for more awesomeness!

Ok, I had an idea about custom kits, and arcangel had ideas for badges shown on models, so this is a combination of them that I just thought of.

Make each kit customizable, for example, use Imperial classes.

There are two armor types to choose from : heavy (stormtrooper or scouttrooper) and medium (the black imperial naval soldiers). There would also be an officer class, but worn only by the current commander. The officer would only be equipped with a pistol, which would make people happier about commanders not jumping into combat.

For these two armor types, there would be a slight model difference based on rank.
For above gunnery sergeant or equivalent, there is a different model then for below gunnery sergeant.

For example: Senior Stormtroopers (above gunnery sergeant rank) (yeah technically theyre sandtroopers, but the orange thing conveys higher rank to me)

Junior stormtroopers (below gunnery sergeant)

Unfortunately only picture I could find of imperial naval troopers was this one

I dont know what could be used to denote experience on their uniform, perhaps the same as imperial officers. You know, the shiny blue and red things that imperial officers have. The more shiny things, the more senior.

I think this would be useful. When you look around the corner to see 6 senior stormtroopers, signified by the orange shoulder thing, you would probably reconsider retreating, and or closing the blast door in a hurry.

This would also be combined with my other customizable class idea, which is for various weapons, equipment, armor and skills.

You could choose stormtrooper, scouttrooper, or imperial naval armor. The heavier armor types have shorter sprint times.

You could for instance choose stormtrooper armor (the heaviest) and a support TL-21 type weapon, but you would have no pistols, grenades, or other equipment, due to the backpack required for the TL-21. Also, your sprint speed would be shortened by the heavy backpack.

As long as the TL-21 is balanced, there is no reason why this wouldnt work.

If you would rather have medic skills, a standard stormtrooper blaster, and EMP mines, thats fine as well.

You could only have one type of explosive, skill, or main weapon at a time.

For instance, you can only have mines, not mines and grenades. You could only have medic healing skills, not engineer repairing skills as well. You could only either have a TL-21 or a standard blaster, not both.

This would be a way to have the best gameplay experience, customized on how you like to play. If you get bored, change it.

I forgot about the large orange shoulder patch. Well we know the game can support fourty unlocks, and probably even more if they allow the cusotm rank sytem to be used in Bf: 2142. I thought the Naval Officers wore all black with a black garrison cap?

Hey, you got your Star Wars in my Star Trek!!

<SpecterWolf>    That's ok.. I blew him as well as a few of his buddies up that ditched an apc.. Explosions ftw!

Yeah, but thats a naval trooper, they were in the death star and star destroyers.

Some imperial officers have grey uniforms, some have black.

personally, I think wearing badges is a silly idea and a waste of time for our dev team.  Ranks are enough to show your superiority.  The whole wearing badges thing isn't worth it.  The other things there sound cool tho.

But its not badges! This would simply be an orange shoulder patch to indicate you are over a certain rank!

Surely it wouldnt lag, and it would be pretty cool.

I would find better pictures if i knew where Mr.Wookiee got his screens heh. I remember stumbling across a site that had like pictures of LOTR Two towers, it had a screen for about every second of the movie. Maybe Wookiee has one like that, but for star wars.

Yea, it sounds cool. I wonder if it it's possible to have it just change with your rank automatically.  Instead of having the thing next to your name, your guy looks different(or girl in the sharpshooter case wink.

Hey! My idea of unlockable medic packs and repairing wrenchs, etc, is so good its already implemented into BF2142! The following is from gamespot, and proves that my idea is not only feasible, its already in, and should be a cinch to do the rest (unlock repair tools, etc)

"There is no dedicated medic class in Battlefield 2142. Instead, the standard assault class can unlock a medic kit, which can be used to heal you and friendly units. However, you won't be able to scatter multiple kits at the same time. Instead, you're given a single health kit that can be deployed onto the ground. It will not instantly heal a friendly, like Battlefield 2's kits can, but it will slowly heal all friendly units within a small radius. Meanwhile, defibrillators to revive fallen teammates are another unlock. "
