Topic: UAV model

Now that EA has demonstrated the use of visible/destroyable UAVs, what are the plans for a UAV type model for First Strike?  Is there going to be a UAV function at all?

I had a few thoughts on this:

For space maps, and possibly every map if the BF2 engine only allows one model for the generic UAV (wouldn't doubt it), how about a space probe.  I don't think that this object was ever mentioned in the movies, but I seem to remember a mision in Tie Fighter where you had to stave off waves of enemy fighters while you waited for a little probe to be recovered by your capital ship.  If I find any images, I'll post them later.  I think that it would be generic enough to fit well with either the Rebels or Imps.

For imperials on ground maps, I would love to see a probe droid circling around my position, and then blast it out of the sky.  This comes directly from the movies, and I think it would be especially appropriate on Hoth.  Dor the rebeles, I didn't really have any ideas.

What do you guys think?

Re: UAV model

The probe droid sounds awesome.  The reciever could simply be a collection of antennae which can be destroyed.

Also, I found some stuff which could be used for the artillery:
Imperials - Mobile Artillery
Rebels - Mobile Proton Torpedo Launcher

Re: UAV model

I'd say yes to the UAV idea, but I guess it's up to some other fellas in the team.

I'm not too sure about the artillery pieces though, I think they ought to be immobile, but that isn't really up to me to decide either.

Great ideas anyway!

Re: UAV model

Yeah, they should be immobile, but having them just sit there is perfectly justified, seeing as they have to pack up the gun to move.  Otherwise they can still be mobile, DC did it with the MLRS.

Re: UAV model

True DC did that with the MLRS and the M-109, but that was 1942 and they didn't have the advanced artillery functions like BF:2.  I don't think that it is possible in BF:2 to have your commander assets as mobile objects.  If you're talking about just using these artillery pieces as regular vehicles and not having them linked to the actual commander artillery function, then I think that would work perfectly fine.

For Hoth at least, I think it would be more realistic (true to the movies) if the rebels didn't have artillery, and the Imperials get artillery support from their star destroyers once the shield generator is destroyed.  As for all the other maps, I have no ideas.

Re: UAV model

TBH on hoth the ISD is disabled as the iron cannon disabled it as the transport was leaving. so no bombardments would be coming down.

Re: UAV model

True, but there were multiple Star Destroyers, and only one could be disabled at a time. Once the shield is down, I think there could be orbital bombardments.
