General Un-Co wrote:I have no idea why people would make a thread about using GC maps in FS. Incase you people haven't noticed we ARE making Hoth. But did we copy GC? the answer is no. There was a man many of you probably never heard of, named George Lucas he directed a movie called 'Star something or other' I believe it was quite successful in America. Anyway this movie he created featured battle remarkably similar to those featred in GC some even had similar titles 'Hoth', 'Endor', 'Bespin', etc. We here at FS are making a game 'Modification' based on George's little series of movies, not on GC any parrallels between the two; exist only in your mind. So if you see names like 'Endor', 'Hoth,' 'Mon Cal,' 'Bespin,' 'DS:I' you can be assured it has nothing to do with GC, If anything I'm starting to suspect GC may have plagerised the names straight out of Georgy boys creation.
Sarcasm aside the mod is based on SW, all of the maps requested are either from the movies or EU, to think we would not put them in is absurd. So next time you request maps, request a battle from the movies or EU, not a battle from a game based on EU and Movies. Skip the middle man and save some money.
Well it is not really something completly new for a mod or game to feature maps from other games or mods in an altered way.
For example 2Fortresses is not only found in Team Fortress. And hell no I was never intrested in 1:1 copies of GC maps(I still consider the railroad on Judicater and the Tie Hangars on Deathstar as pretty stupid). But the name of those maps represent ideas and certain points of view concerning gameplay. So why suggest an idea or setting when there is already a name for it there.
So why say a map on a Star Destroier with ... or a map with a space battle between capital ships that features... or a Death Star Trench Run would be great.
So in the end it is just a name and if a map ends up pretty similar to something that has been done before why not give it the same name.
As I said in my earlier posts I do not doubt that FS will succed and that it will step out of the shadow of GC and SW:BF. But I see no harm in copying a good idea here and there.
