Topic: Space Battle Question

Not sure what forum to post this in so I'm gonna post it here.

Are there boundries in the space maps like there are on land maps in bf2? Back in the day I use to play the old X-Wing flight sim series and the space maps are just endless. I would LOVE to see some type of map like this to where your free to roam and do what you want. The only problem that I might see with this being implemented into a multiplayer perspective is the random players flying way out in no where for no aparent reason. Can someone please give me some insight on what the actual space map denminsions are gonna be. One thing that bugs me so bad in bf2 is the boundries while flying, just seems so closed in and clostropobic(sp?).

I hope it's not going to be like BattleFront. That felt way to arcadish to me. I want more of a flight sim feel.

Anywho, I've been checking the site and the forums for the past say 2 months and I'm just loving the work the devs are doing! This is looking to be a AWSOME mod!! Keep up the great work!

Also, is it just me or is anyone else itching for a new X-Wing series flight sim game? I just really hope the space battles in FS is gonna give me that fix until LA gets off their asses and makes another flight sim, if they ever!

Re: Space Battle Question

Once youv played FS space maps you wont need LA to make a new Xwing series wink

We will be doing everything possible to have a non claustrophobic battle.

Also if we do anything right , itl be that we dont copy Battlefront 2 smile

Re: Space Battle Question

Any game in the Battlefield series will have an 'up' and a 'down' because the engine was built for terrestrial combat (stuff relating to shooting on or at a land mass).

99.9% rest assured that there will be a 'ground' boundary that you cannot fly any more towards once you hit it or are shooed away by coding.  This is not necessarily a bad thing because it will keep the combatants on one plane, anyway.  You'll be able to use strategy to come in and attack from below or above angles, but not from a full 360 degrees as in X-Wing.

As a side note, BF1942 maps could be hacked and edited to increase the width and length of 'space' to just about any distance - so if that is still possible on the BF2142 engine than you could definetly have great expanses of space with flags or bases being the choke points.

Think of player fleets having a limited 'hyperdrive' that needed to recharge between jumps across the map wink

Re: Space Battle Question

Wow, that will be great. I'm still curious however as to how we'll know how to stay in bounds.
