Re: Question about Desktop Computer

I would hold off on buying any computer right now. My reason is that DirectX 10 hasn't been built yet, and I don't know your intentions, but very few video cards come with HDCP support (if you wanted to watch movies in HD and a few first generation HD games). That and Windows Vista is around the corner, too.

Re: Question about Desktop Computer

The first generation DX10 cards will not be as good as the 2nd generation anyway so you'd better just get an X1900XT for the time being.

Besides all currently announced DX10 games will also run on DX9.

And the R600 uses 180W +-, the G80 not being much less, that's quite alot on a year basis.

Re: Question about Desktop Computer

This thread confuses me.... big time. Are you guys saying that when DX10 comes out I won't be able to play anymore? sad

Na, I think their saying if hes going to buy new gear, he might as well wait till Dx10 is out. YOu can play an all, but some stuff will be optimized for 10.

Hmm, good point. Do you think anyone is going to be able to play Crysis at highest settings when it comes out this year? I doubt it since it requires DX10 to run effectively and based on the fact that the developers even said that next-gen systems won't be able to run it properly. (Crysis is part of the reason for me upgrading my comupter cause dang, that game is sweet tongue)

Re: Question about Desktop Computer

If its for crysis then 2.1GHZ is WAAAAAY too little.
For that money u might be better buying it from http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/Default.asp - or building it yourself (best choice).

Re: Question about Desktop Computer

Next gen DX10 video cards should run Crysis just fine, that and Crysis will likely release next year (seeing as Vista and DX10 video cards wont be available till Januaryish, which are both required to play  Crysis). They already have test beds that run the game just fine and the new cards are supposed to be extremely powerful (and power consuming, look forward to that 1kw power supply).

Anyway back on topic, I'd be careful of that system your looking at. The posted specs are of a different system than the webpage shown. The website shown is just the companies main page with OTHER computers you could buy.
