hmm.. good point! smile But still, why not the second run. Someone said a shortage of torps, and I think that might explain it. But still, wouldn't they be able to find a few more torps, after all, its a high profile mission to say the least!

Some of you people think to much. smile

First why would they do a trench run, where a normal run from the top of the thermal exhaust pipe would have been better?
Easier to line up, plus you wouldn't be boxed into a trench and killed most likely.

Now if that wasn't possible it meant you had to be lined up for the trench run. And seeing lining up took time, they only had one run each. Because getting back to the start of the run would either take to long or would be to dangerous.

I do believe they had more then 1 set of torpedoes. Check the wiki link.

Well the excuse was that the anti aircraft cannonry by the exhaust port (above the trench) was too dense there, so they had to sneak in under them inside the trench. But undoubtedly it was to dramatize the situation. And it worked big_smile! That scene was pretty cool...

They flew out of the trench at the exhaust port, so the "dense" anti aircraft cannonry should have nailed them as soon as they came out. smile

I try not to think to much when watching the movies. Purely enjoy them like they are.

They turned the Turbolasers off , in the trench , when Vader and his squad flew into the trench.

Look to the far right. Says 2 launchers with 3 per tub. smile

Re: Implementing basic fighter tactics in the game: X-wings

Red Squadron and Gold Squadron participated in the Battle of Yavin.

X-Wings, according to the X-W flight sims, have two tubes of three proton torpedos each.

They didn't take more than one attack run per group of Rebel fighters because the Death Star / Vader's TIEs shot up the ships as soon as they left the trench.  Why do you think the Rebels were using the trench in the first place?  Because there were too many cannons on the surface for a direct approach.

And if you're going by the X-Wing games, which are a great, stable resource for Rebel fighter loadouts:

X-Wing
4 laser cannons
6 proton torpedos in (3 per tube)

Y-Wing
2 laser cannons
2 ion cannons
8 proton torpedos (4 per tube)

A-Wing
2 laser cannons
12 concussion missiles (6 per tube)

B-Wing
3 laser cannons
3 ion cannons
I forget the warhead loadout but it had both proton torpedos and concussion missiles.
