Topic: Tractor Beam

Does anyone think it would be neat if the commander on space maps could use a tractor beam on other ships?  So the beam would shoot out from the SD and freeze the Rebel ship for like... 1 minute or so. The beam would also be like a commander asset, it would be on the SD's surface so if the tractor beam gets destroyed it wears off...


(totally different idea just popped into my head)

Tractor Beam Scenario:


Your rebel ship has been frozen in a tractor beam, the imperials are sending boarding craft and Ties, You have to get in your ships and take out the shield generators, to get to the delicate tractor beam! BUT you have to board their SD first yikes oh no, because it is deep in the SD sad THEN and only then can you destroy the tractor beam, and after that you also have to wait 2 minutes to get away because your hyper drive was damaged yikes hold off the imps and you win...


Imperials have to board enemy ship and try to capture the bridge while defending there SD and tractor beam. If rebels get the tractor beam down you still have time to take the bridge!


Like muh ideas?

I'd love to see tractor beams, but I'm at a loss as to how it might be achieved. Would be neat tho. Especially if it could be usede to tractor in escape pods.

There could be a Tantive VI map Where the first objactive is to tractor the Tantive into the ISD's Hangar and then board it with Storm Troopers.

I am no coder but is there a way to give the commander remote control access to an enemy ship?  If so then the commander could simply guide the enemy ship after it gets within a certain radius of the commander ship.  This would be about the same as a tractor beam.

Remote Control Access would be too uber, I think. You have to keep in mind that you could fool around with that too much.
Try to imagine the following scenario:

A rebel Corvette flys too near to an ISD and that one now gets its tractor beam working on the Corvette. What now? The commander of the ISD is a fool and just flys the corvette into the next asteroid so that it takes damage or is even destroyed.

Don't think that that would be very nice. hmm

That freezing scenario is better (in my opinion), although I think that the time of freezing would have to be lowered a bit. About 30 seconds maybe with a 1 1/2 minute recharge time of the tractor beam projector or so.
Would be balanacing that thing a bit and giving a partial feeling of a real tractor beam. smile

Or if it is possible and doable with the BF2142/BF2 Engine the ship (if it is not too big) could be towed into the ISD's main hangar without making the commander able to steer the towed ship.
