Topic: General Hangar Ideas/Suggestions
One problem I have with Star Wars games is the incorrect positioning of the hangars (especially battlefront 2). So, hopefully we can avoid this in First Strike.
Firstly, ISD hangars, which are much easier to place. Each ISD has two hangars, main and secondary. The actual square openings are not the hangars, as I'm sure many know. The actual hangars are on the front/rear walls of those openings. The pictures below illustrate where they are. ISD mark 1s and 2s have different positioning of the secondary hangar, but version 2 is easier, as the main hangar can be made deeper.
Rebel Cruiser hanagrs are much harder to position, as close up shots of them dont exist. Firstly, you need to decide which cruiser to go with.
1. Home One, Ackbar's flagship. This is thought to be 3.5km long, and only one exists, so I'd stay away from that. However, it has 1 hangar on one side and 2 on the other. http://theforce.net/swtc/Pix/chron/mchomeone2.jpg.
This is also the one seen from the inside in the films.
2. Liberty-type Cruiser, the winged one. There aren't any views of the side or ventral hangars on this, so you'd have to make up the positioning. The only hangars that are seen face backwards where the wing meets the body. http://theforce.net/swtc/Pix/dvd/zs/rotj/mcflybyb1.jpg
However, these may not be hangars at all. Battlefront 2 puts them on the edge of the wing.
3. Independence/Reef Home-type Cruiser, the wingless one. Both this and the Liberty have ventral cavities like the ISDs, but where the hangars are located is unknown. http://theforce.net/swtc/Pix/dvd/zs/rotj/mcflybyd1.jpg
Force Fields
Thanks to Titan mode, BF2142 has given us one team force fields. Assuming theres some way of scaling these up, these could be used to great effect in space battles. Having enemy ships able to land straight in your hangar is ridiculous (battlefront again). Instead, you could have generators on the outside of the hangars (similar to Episode 3); which, when destroyed, change the one team force field into a both-team force field, allowing anyone to go through.
An alternative is to have the force field completely destroyed, turning the hangar into a vacuum. It gets locked off from the rest of the ship and becomes useless. The attackers must land (presumably with some sort of breathing apparatus gadget), and work their way through an airlock leading to the rest of the ship, This leads for some great oppurtunities as the defenders wait inside the corridors for the airlock doors to open.
If I should die, think only this of me:
That in some corner of a foreign field
There lies a plagiarist.
