Moving from EA/Dice to Steam/Valve is like moving from one realm of hell to another. Valve/steam does not support offline patching that is why I boycott their LAN unfriendly products. I have no problem with patch download services (I even use the EA Downloader) but I do not want to have to download every patch again only because I uninstalled a game.

Eh you have a good point there, before Garry's Mod was bought by Valve, I hated patching that game. Plus steams servers are crap.

Without a ton of cash, the number of freely usable engines out there is limited.

Sounds like Oblivion.... that evil Pete Hines promising us horse armour and then taking it away and making us pay for it. EVIL. Even if it is only a couple bucks for each of the official oblivion downloads, it's not worth it.

Well you can always try to win in the lottery so that you can buy your own Unreal 3 engine.
No idea how much money you would need to win but there are 35M € in the German jackpot right now. Maybe this would be a start smile

I think most of the people in this community stated often enough that they want to buy 2142 because of your mod and not because of DICE so an engine change would not really kill this project for most of us smile

Absolutely Woody. I've decided to stop buying EA game products  because they are seriously beggining to destroy the video game world. They're sucking up more and more game companies, and making them follow ridiculous commecial guidelines that are ruining the buisness. All we can do, like you said, is stop buying their products. Unfortunately, we know that organizing a mass boycott of EA products is not such an easy task. And that holds true for anything these days.

The ONLY reason I'm getting 2142, is because you guys are making FS. If that mod didn't exist, I wouldn't even think twice about 2142.

DICE should switch to a new pubisher. I mean hey, who wouldn't want to publish their games?
Guys, if the mod support fails at 2142, go ahead and port to UT or source. You guys are too good for EA.

I love bf's feel. Say what you want about ea/dice, but they can make some great games. Even if support and bugs suck.
