It is easly done. Make the usable entity in command HQ
Make the trigger it uses where you want the camera to be situated, link that with a model, make it destructable and there you go.
They have had the option in every game since Duke Nukem 3D.
They also need to be destructable like in the Jail when chewie and Han blow up all of the sensors and cams. Then report in that everythng is doing ok.
Oh one more thing and I did this in Half Life when making maps,
Make a Cam / Gun turret [destructable].
You press the use item and can move the cam/turret!!
This way you can have some sort of local perimiter defence for when breaking through a corridoor.
Easly destructable though.
Oh wait 1 mroe thing pleease. 
In duke Nukem 3d you could go up to a terminala nd control a robot, LOOKED exactly the same as that small BLACK Mouse looking thing in the deathstar that Chewie growns at and gets scared and drives away.
Maybe we can have this sort of feature for placing laser mines, repairs or just recon?

p.s It seems strange but for a game that is now over 10 years old it seemed to have alot mroe features then most games released these days.
It even had jet packs.
