Y-wing starfighters hold the dubious record of being the most-destroyed military vessel in the Alliance arsenal. This is not due to any design flaw in the Koensayr starfighter. Rather, it is the result of it being the most common starfighter the Alliance had at its disposal during the Galactic Civil War.

Predating the Incom X-wing, the Koensayr Y-wing figured prominently in the Rebellion's early skirmishes. They proved their value in the Battle of Vnas at Duro, and the Battle of Ord Biniir. During the Siege of Ank Ki'Shor, Y-wing fighters saved thousands of lives by holding off attacking TIE bombers.

Yep, knew i was right. The Y wing was the main rebel fighter before the Xwing took over.

The Y wing isnt a bomber per say. Its just more adaptable.

The Y wing was the main/standard rebel starfighter until the X wing came to being.

The Y-Wing wasn't the protoype for the X-Wing, it was just a predecessor.  Similarily, the F-86 Sabre wasn't a protoype for the F-4, it just came before.

I believe Zulu was correct in saying that the Z-95 Headhunter was considered a prototype for the X-Wing, but I was just noting that the Z-95 shouldn't be considered a Rebel Starfighter seen as the Rebel Alliance used the X-Wing, not its prototype, the Z-95.

Confusing enough?
