Topic: Tips for less lag in 2142
Punkbuster checks
I'm sure most of you know this, but open the console (with the tilde key, above tab) and type "pb_sleep 500" (without quotes). This makes punkbuster check every 500 seconds isntead of every 10 seconds. Its perfectly legal (it wont let you go above 500). After this, tpye "pb_writecfg". This will save the setting, so you odn;t have to do it every time you join a server.
You can do this in BF2, but it never had any effect for me (and sometimes made it worse). However in 2142 it seems to make a huge difference.
If you are getting kicked "for teamkilling or a kick vote" a lot:
You need to update your punkbuster files. If you have a firewall it wont do it automatically, so type punkbuster into google, go to the website and download the updater.
If you are playing on a wireless LAN
Warning - in some cases this will stop your wireless working, if so, turn it back on.
If the above isnt true, then you are running an unneeded utility which makes you lag more. Right click on "my computer" and click manage. Double click "services and applications". Double click "services". Scroll down to "Wireless Zero Configuration". Double click, and under "startup type", select manual.
Then either restart your computer; or turn it Wirless Zero off by right clicking on it and clicking " "stop".
If your internet stops working, simply turn it back on and set it to automatic startup again. If not, enjoy less lag.
Titan Mode
Fighting on a Titan requires much more processing power, so if you play a lot of Titan, you need to lower your graphics to stop your framerate dropping into the 20s (at which point you can't play properly). Turning off effects, shadows, lighting and anti-aliasing makes the biggest difference. Turning down the texture and resoltuion should be avoided though.
If you never play Titan, you can play with better graphics settings.
For Dual-Core machines (you might have a dual core and not know it)
How to turn off one of the cores:
1. Start BF2142.
2. Hit alt+tab to minimize it.
3. Hit ctrl+alt+delete, and click "task manager" if ti doesnt come up by itself.
4. Go to the "processes tab"
5. Right click on "Bf2142.exe" and click "set affinity"
6. Unselect any CPUs above 0 (most will just have 0 and 1). If you only have 0, then you dont have dual core and this wont work.
7. Exit the task manager and click on bf2142 in the taskbar and play.
8. You should notice a rise in FPS. To access FPS, open the console in a round (` key) and type "renderer.drawfps 1"
While wee're talking about 2142, heres 10 free points
Fly up high using a gunship. Bail out and hit parachute. After 10 seconds you get the HALO ribbon, which gives you 10 career points. This can only be done once, but helps towards your first unlock.
If I should die, think only this of me:
That in some corner of a foreign field
There lies a plagiarist.
