Re: Tips for less lag in 2142

Man, I have never been so frustrated at a game. Before I tried these tips every so often I would get kicked by punkbuster for no reason, but it was only on a few servers (very good servers...) and I could live with it. I saw these tips and tried them and now I can't join a single server without getting kicked by punkbuster
Does anyone have any tips before I break my copy of BF2142 in half?

Poor you

You are probably the only one in the world. Ok there's my tip: Reinstall 2142, than reinstall your EaDownloader!! A kind of magie!

cool have fun!!

Re: Tips for less lag in 2142

Ya at first I thought that too. Then I saw this thread http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread.jsp … ID=135774.

Apparently it's not a problem on my end, EA just decided they didn't like a few of us. I'm trying to decide if I should hire a hit-man to kill the CEO of Dice or EA hmmmm, decisions decisions.

Some guy posted a list:

Things that don't fix it:

- low video resolution

- low video settings

- manual punkbuster update

- automatic punkbuster update

- reinstall of game

- reinstall of EA downloader

- using a different login (say a friend's)

- creating a new profile for your own login

- rebooting

- playing at different times of day

new tip, got it off BF2S. I'll write it here and add it above.

A lot of computers are dual-core (mine is, and I bought it two years ago. Had no idea) However, BF2142 (and 2) only run on 1 core. So having both on rduces performance a lot (I'm talking around 20fps here).

How to turn off one of the cores:

1. Start BF2142.
2. Hit alt+tab to minimize it.
3. Hit ctrl+alt+delete, and click "task manager" if ti doesnt come up by itself.
4. Go to the "processes tab"
5. Right click on "Bf2142.exe" and click "set affinity"
6. Unselect any CPUs above 0 (most will just have 0 and 1). If you only have 0, then you dont have dual core and this wont work.
7. Exit the task manager and click on bf2142 in the taskbar and play.
8. You should notice a rise in FPS. To access FPS, open the console in a round (` key) and type "renderer.drawfps 1"

I'm unsure if this is permanent. Probably not.

If you download a little program here you can permanently set the affinity. http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t65211.html
