Yah, excellent idea, but shield it somehow, meybe with a bit of an overhang, so people have to take the trench and not just pull endless barrel rolls firing torpedos.

and protect them with turbolasers, controlled by players

Well it was REALLY hard, for me (anyway), to get it in GC. I don't think something on a wall would be good because then that's so far from the movie, and having it on the ground is not right either because the Rebels had to stay in the trenches. Perhaps angle the hole mabye..... 35 degrees?

I once landed next to the trench hole back in GC. It looked like more than 2 meters wide. AND, I had almost no problem in hitting the trench hole, you just need to approach from the right angle.


EDIT: TV guided rockets? Maybe you will put in that R2D2 spot if you know what I mean. wink
Left click: repair craft.
Right click: Proton torpedos 2 seater jet BF2 laser sight blah. Maybe you could add something like an automatic lock so if you fire while aiming at a vehicle it would lock on and fly at it it? So: if a lets say a tie fighter has an Xwing on its tail, "R2D2" fired the rocket while his crosshair is "on" the tie the rocket will quite sureley kill him. BUT, if the tie pilot does some sweet trick, the R2D2 guy won't "hit" him and the missle wont even go after him.

Is that balanced and codable?

The heat signature sounds good to me too. If the time needed to stay on target before it locks is adjustable, it could be made long enough to get some exiting moments. Laser turrets doing their best to blast you to pieces, and TIE fighters right on your tail. Trying to keep the target shaft in the sights, while at the same time you have to manouver enough to dodge the laser blasts.

Yeah, I like that idea. The second seat/gunner/bomber as the player being R2D2 would be interesting though, but are people in an average game that team skilled for it to work?
