I'm with you Woody. I never buy brand new parts just because they have all the latest features. I just got a new rig and it runs great.
Besides, new games will still support DX 9. It's not like everyone's machines won't work just because a new technology is released.

I just paid $250 for a really great card, and would never spend more than $350 for a graphics card. It's just not smart to buy the high-end cards, when you'll probably need a new one in a year or two anyway.

Well in the past I bought some of those high-end cards:

- 3D Prophet 3 Ti 500 64MB --> €500
- 3D Prophet 9800XT 256MB --> €500

Well I still play with my old reg, can run everything on very high (DooM III, HL2) and some on medium (BF2, BF2142)

P4 2.4Ghz FSB: 400Mhz
768MB Rdram

Except for the tiny little problem of DX 10 not being backwards compatable, yeah sure your computer will work perfectly fine...

well, that's why there is also DirectX 9.0L on Vista, so two DirectX-versions run together on Vista

No, older cards WILL NOT support the new DirectX standard- it cannot be updated via a patch, it has to be hard coded in the CPU/PPU of the card, in which is not backwards compatible with existing cards.

of course not, but to play older DX9 games on Vista, u need DX 9.0L

even with dx8 cards, they also didn't support dx9
