Re: SSD Map Idea

That is a good idea... It would fit perfectly with the space docks thing.... CPs could be the Anti-Spacecraft Turrets or something also.

Yeah, there are a lot of good ideas coming out of this discussion guys, keep 'em coming.

cool

I like the idea of making defensive turrets on the space dock command posts, though I don't know how you'd take them while flying around in starfighters. But destroying them could contribute to the success of the mission for the Rebels. If they take out a certain number of these turrets/command posts the Blockade Runner/Dropships have a safe route to the SSD/Star Destroyer. If the Rebels don't manage to take out a certain number of the turrets/command posts, indicating that the Imperial faction have been successful in defending their assets, the Blockade Runner/Dropships are destroyed resulting in an Imperial victory.

Re: SSD Map Idea

If you're looking for an assault ship, the Neb-B frigate would seem to make sense. They are bigger than Vettes, are well known for adaptability (being hospital or war ships), and are in ROTJ, making them recognisable.

Failing that, I'd go with a dreadnought or assault frigate.

It's meant to be an Old Republic warship used before Star Destroyers and the like, it's purely EU though, so you won't be finding them in the prequel movies or anything. I think the first time I saw them was in the old West End Games Star Wars Roleplaying Game, they also get a lot of action in a lot of the novels. They tend to get used by all factions Rebels, Imperials and everything inbetween when you want a medium sized capital ship. I've posted a link the the SW.com Database below.

Talon1579, I see where you're coming from when you suggest a Nebulon-B Frigate as the assault ship, but the problem with that is we need something small enough to land on the SSD/Star Destroyer so it can off load it's cargo of vehicles, troops and equipment. Which is why I suggested a Corvette as that is large enough to carry that sort of equipment, and small enough to land in an SSD's hanger bay. Alternatively if we go with the standard size Star Destroyer the smaller hangers would require a number of the Imperial AT-AT carrying Dropships, or maybe Gallofree Transports would be the Rebel equivalent.

A Neb-B might make a good launch platform for the the Rebel fighters for the space map, and could perhaps provide cover for whatever style of assault transports the Rebels choose to invade the Imperial ship with.

Re: SSD Map Idea

another option is to just have the rebel transports already in the hanger and have the forces landing, [have like an intro where they land or somthing] but have the rebels land on the SSD and not even have the defence turrets outside, make it look like the 2nd Death Star where it looks incomplete [on the outside] and it is complete on the inside. what u said about having a turbolift is a great idea, to get to the bridge. you could have a turbolift to take the rebels [who would be attacking] and the empire [to reinforce] the bridge, it would  be like on the map SURGE is BF2:SF where their is that elavator to take the command bunker

Re: SSD Map Idea

Aye, that's when I first saw a lift in BF2, so I thought, well heck if the engine is capable of it why not use it? After all with working turbolifts you could make much more extensive use of a capital ship's interior, or the Death Star's interior for that matter.
