Topic: Gamemode, objective/scenario...
First id like to say im quite impressed by this mod and will probably buy BF2142 because of this mod alone.
In short, what im proposing is to have a kind of a non-linear ("dynamic") objective/scenario type of gamemode. Basically combine the best thing about BF2(142), the "freedom", with objective/scenario style gameplay.
Last objective based game i remember playing was probably Wolfenstein ET. I think its pretty good but frankly, most of the maps are simple linear "objective-to-objective" style and the map(s) get pretty repetitive quickly. Theres just so many times you can steal radar parts or destroy the "railgun" without getting bit "bored" of it. Its not the actual objectives but the fact that its done in the exact same sequence every single time.
Now if you could take that objective style gameplay into a more free and "dynamic" enviroment, allowing multiple different ways of completing the "main objective"... it would be awesome. ![]()
Ive prepared a quick sample in a form of a map which is "roughly" based on the "Battle for Endor" part of the Star Wars movies. Just to remind that this is just simple example to show what i mean exactly.

Yea, the map image is from BF2142. Works for me, though ive not played 2142.
This map is pretty much Rebels attacking and Imperial forces trying to defend, more or less. Anyways, im gonna go through the locations in this map.
"Rebel Camp" and "Imperial Outpost" is the two main starting points. Both have some "hardware" spawns, like rebels with Landspeeders etc. things like there was in the "Battle for Endor" etc.
Also note that the "Imperial Outpost" is capturable by Rebels, allowing them to have access to the Imperial hardware, but is heavily fortified with turrets etc. which all are powered by the "Power Generator".
"Power Generator" location is not "spawnable" location. The "power generator" is either destroyed/disabled or working. The "power generator" also powers the "Planetary Defence".
"Ewok Forest" is a capturable Rebel only spawn, which Imperial forces can neutralize. This could be more complex than just simple "flag cap" process, something more "interesting".
"Planetary Defence", a big ion cannon, is the main objective for the Rebel side. Basically its a "capture and hold" objective. However, this is only possible if the "Power Generator" is working/enabled. The idea is that Rebels are trying to use this gun and it takes some time to get it ready to fire, you get the idea... ![]()

Also this location is spawnable only for Imperial forces if the "power generator" is not destroyed and Rebels are not trying "capture and hold".
Now that ive pretty much covered the basic layout, perhaps its time to think about possible scenarios in this setting.
Theres a lot of "dynamics" in the objectives, which is the idea of the whole thing im suggesting. For instance Rebels could try and end the game by simply destroying the "Power Generator" and attacking Imperial Outpost directly, since taking out the generator would cripple the Imperial defences (disabling turrets and/or shields etc). If Rebels could take over the Outpost location, they would pretty much win automatically as Imperial forces couldnt "spawn" anymore(?). This might be bit "rough" ending and probably not the best solution for a map but it works as an example. However, this should be pretty difficult thing to accomplish so...
In another scenario, Rebels could try and take over the Planetary Defences directly by capturing the "Ewok Forest" spawn and attacking the "Planetary Defences". Also they could first disable the "Power Generator", thus making Imperial forces unable to spawn at "Planetary Defences" making it easier target, take over "Planetary Defences" and hold positions until own forces fix the "Power Generator" to start the "capture and hold" counter.
For the Imperial team in this situation, they pretty much have to two options to keep Rebels from winning. Either they keep the "Power Generator" destroyed and/or reclaim the "Planetary Defences". Note that Rebels cant spawn at the "Planetary Defences" so Imperial team should neutralize the Rebel "Ewok Forest" spawn to make things easier.
By now, I think people understand what i mean. I think this whole idea is quite simple and only thing it would require is some thinking when making the maps. However, i think the results would be a lot better and more interesting than just simple flag capping. Frankly, im just simply tired of flags, but i understand why they exist in pretty much every multiplayer game ever created. Its a simple concept and even simpler to implement.
Hopefully, someone is enough bored to read all this... ![]()
