The main priority for the imps will be to get to the SG , blow it up , then enter echo base .

I hope you don't make the same mistake a lot of other fools make - the device the ATs are trying to destroy is the bases' "Power Generator", not a "Shield Generator" - what they had on Endor was a shield generator.

The Imperial assault was primarily aimed at destroying the Rebel's main power generators. This would shut down the theater shield protecting the base from orbital bombardment. General Veers led the assault personally, commanding an AT-AT walker, and crushed the Rebel defenses.

The cross-section of Echo Base seen in Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy shows 15 T-47 airspeeders, 9 in Hangar 7 and the rest in the transports hangar. Whether or not all of these participated in the battle is not known.

Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back wrote:

GENERAL VEERS: All troops deembark for ground assault. Prepare to target the main generator.
(Blizzard One AT-AT fires at the Power Generator, which rests at ground level beside a hill, totally unobscured)

(as Blizzard One closes in, it fires at Rebel ground troops)
VEERS: Distance to power generators?
PILOT: 17.28
(Blizzard One totally pwns a snowspeeder, Veers pulls down a periscope)
VEERS: Target. Maximum firepower.
(Blizzard One's gunner kills a few more Rebs, then blows up the power generator in one satisfying fireball - Go Imps)

Re: ATAT Titan

Update on the Power Generator vs. Shield Generator controversy:

After several viewings of the battle on DVD, it has become clear that the Power Generator and Shield Generator are different, but related.

What we see Veers destroy is the Main Power Generator, which in addition to supplying power to the base is also providing power to the Shield Generator, which we do not see but probably looks like that dish on Endor in Episode VI.

Therefore, by destroying the Power Generator for the shields, Lord Vader can land the 501st and orbital bombardment can also take place.

Of course, the reason the Rebels were able to get the shield up was because Ozzel came out of light speed too close to the system.
