Topic: More detail on Aircraft for FS?

As a jet pilot from bf2 and a great fan of the fs. I'm slightly more interested in the aircraft to come, especially the A-wings and other aircraft.
There are a couple of things I like just to suggest.

The secondary fire weapon on the A-wing, and probably one of my favourite weapons was the Cluster missles. You could consider a secondary fire on the A-wing that would fire a round of missles all at once at different trajectories. To give the same affect.

Also The Y-wing Bomber is usually a 2 man viecle in the starwars series, one who opperates the gun turrent and another who controls the main craft and bombs. The method of fire for the bombs I would think maybe hard to map out, as usually a seperate visor pops up viewing the ground directly, this appears in many starwars titles. Also it maybe an idea to use the main pilots primary guns as emp guns. Similar to the Ions cannon on the Y-wing. Allowing it to diable vielces beofre it bombs.

I am also slightly worried, of another issue concerning the Imperial fighters. Usually the imperial fighters just included primary blasters, in this game could give a sever disadvantage to the impirial side. It maybe an idea to make the imperial blasters fire at a faster rate than that of the rebels to make p for the loss of the secondary weapon.

One last thing tongue this is one which might be good. If there a way you could create an aircraft capable of carrying viecles directly into the heat of the battle. That way some transport aircraft could in cordination with air make a combined assult more throughrily.

Re: More detail on Aircraft for FS?

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Cluster missiles won't be included, I'm afraid. They are un-canon (not accurate to the movies) as they only appeared in Rogue Squadron, as an upgrade to the A-Wings missiles. The A-Wing will have guided concussion missiles in this mod.

I'm unaware of the Y-Wing situation right now, as I believe infantry combat is being focused on first. BF2142 doesn't support picture-in-picture viewing, so a separate bomb sight wouldn't be possible. However, a bomb camera would work, as would having the bombs dropped by the gunner. Ion cannons will probably be limited to space Y-Wings (which will likely have torpedoes, not bombs, and they will be similar to EMP weapons.)

With the Imperial fighters, the mods aim is to be as accurate as possible. In the films, the imperial blasters actually ire more slowly, so they'll probably be made more powerful. The imperial ship sare also faster and more manouverable in general.

For a vehicle transport - this hasn't been seen in the original trilogy, and would be very difficult to make work without destroying both vehicles (the only way I see it working was if the transport and the vehicle took no collision damage). Its possible though.

Re: More detail on Aircraft for FS?

Hmn I was most interested in the viecle idea, I got the idea of the Attack of the Clones movie, in which at the battle of geonosis you can see one of the transports dropping down a tank. Whether or not there is a apparence in the Films I don't know.

I definately think if it could be mapped it could add more depth tactics to the map being able to move your armor units to the furthest bases as quickly as posible. Whether it mapable or not is another thing.

Based on what you just said on the Y-wings it maybe an idea that the first view on hte gunner side is the gun turret on top of the craft and the second is replacing the missle trrent underneath with a bombing turret similar to the titan movable nozzels to judge the bomb launch angles.

I do have to say nice job by you lot on the aircraft, I've seen the shots of them. They do look mighty impressive. Definatly the thing I'm looking foward to smile

This is afaik unconfirmed either way.

Some imperial blasters fired more slowly, the Ints on the other hand didn't.

True, but logic suggests it must of been present - though knowing the Empire it probably would be oversized. And the rebels are fond of things that transport themselves.

Re: More detail on Aircraft for FS?

About the Y-Wing thing guys - are you going with the one seater Y-Wing (from the movies) or the two-seater Y-Wing (mostly from the books)? Because either way works for me, really.

As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong I know you will so why do I ask) Y-Wings break down as such:
you have your BTL-S3 Y-Wing, which is a one man fighter
then you have your BTL-A4 Y-Wing, which as best as I recall is a two-seater with a gunner working the ion cannon
then there's your BTL-A4 Longprobe Y-Wing, which has some room for passengers and provisions, and is generally a long range recon ship

So I don't see the point of the A4 LP in a game, but currently the specific version of Y-Wing (whether one man or two man) is yet to be listed on the main site.

Re: More detail on Aircraft for FS?

we'll probably be including both Y wings.   Some maps 1 seater (eg. Trench run) ..some maps (probably most) 2 seater.

Its harder to keep up when you're not a tester. I already check the forum every day, and IRC discussions often seem to end in Uno games... 8-)
