<Order recruits to stand in a line and stay still>
Welcome recruits to the basic training element of your [Rebel Alliance/Galactic Empire] training. Today you are all going to lean INDIVIDUAL combat, or how to kill your enemy and stay alive. You are also going to learn about the Chain Of Command for regular units and your place within that chain. Keep in mind that sepcial forces units emphasise singular combat and their chain of command is quite different.
THE CHAIN OF COMMAND:
The chain of command is broken down into four levels. This is a description of those levels and the jobs of the troops in each position. All members are to obey any orders from their superiors in the Chain of Command.
STRATEGIC:
The strategic level is the most important. These decisions fall upon the general(s) of an army. Examples of strategic level decisions are:
Which planet to invade.
Deployment of defensive forces.
Assignments, transfers and training.
TACTICAL:
Tactical level decisions make or break a battle. These positions are filled by the CO of a unit. Out of the battle, tactical commanders have similar responsibilites as strategic commanders, only their power is limited to their own unit. They are in charge of discussing battle tactics with their squad leaders, who will work out the specifics with their squad prior to battle.
Tactical level commanders also deploy into battle. In a battle, the ranking officer will assume the post of tactical commander. Examples of tactical level combat decisons are:
Directing squads and communicating with squad leaders.
Calling down artillery on enemy positions and keeping their units out of the way.
Deploying reconaissance drones to gather data on enemy units in a specific area.
SQUAD:
These are the senior NCOs. They will recieve vague directions from a commander, such as an order to attack a certain position. The squad leader will then work out the specifics of gow to accomplish their task with the squad leaders. Examples of squad level decisions are:
Organizing medical support and access to ammunition.
Directing suppressive fire.
Pincer attacks
Use of flashbangs and other grenades
INDIVIDUAL:
This is where you are. You will grenade the corner your squad leader orders you to, on the building he was instructed to attack from the tactical commander in the city the strategic commander ordered him to attack. You do not have to worry about the "big picture", your only concern is staying alive and eliminating your enemy. Examples of individual level decisions are:
Targeting.
