I must contradict you on that, according to lore, the star destroyers in orbit around Hoth were waiting for the rebels' shield to be brought down so they could begin bombarding the planet as was common practice of the imperial navy.

But they never actually did bombard Hoth. By the time the shield was down, the landing was already underway and Echo Base pretty much captured. If the 'Destroyers did fire on the surface, it's not shown in the movies.

I dont think they were plannin on bombarding the planet. As soon as the generator was blown up Vader landed on the planet.

I doubt very much they would bombard the planet with Vader on it.

it's true that vader was on Hoth, but I bet we won't see Vader on OUR Hoth.
