Topic: Disable Assist Points

Is it possible to implement "disable assist points", i/e, if you disable something with an ion cannon or turret, and someone else kills it, you get a point. This will provide an impetus for people to man ion cannons, and work in pairs (e.g, one on an ion turret, one on a laser turret.)

I think you kinda contradicted yourself there? Unless I misunderstood... I read it 3 times though hmm

Re: Disable Assist Points

If ion cannon are to be implemented, then you should get points for using them. Otherwise the stats freaks won't go anywhere near them.

The big mystery in my eyes is how ion cannons work. In the X-Wing series, they do normal damage to shields and then massive damage to "SYS%" integrity. When this reaches 0%, the ship is completely immobilized. Then in the Rogue Squadron series, they penetrate shields and do even more massive damage to ships' systems. But considering how woefully inaccurate the series is about nearly everything, I'd rather take that as a sign ion cannons don't work that way. In addition, the stupid "huge orb of light that needs an eternity to recharge"-approach is beyond silly - ion cannons are fired like lasers.

I say go with the X-Wing series' approach. Either way, you should have to reduce a ship's shields, if it has them, to zero before you can do any sort of damage.

Re: Disable Assist Points

the way it looked above hoth was like a big electic surge going true the ship. (that was ion right?)
i can se how some systems would blow up.

but i dont think this is such a great idea. if you ever played bf2 inf only karkand, then you know what i mean with; "Its raining Nades!"

everyone would start trowing these nades just to get the points.
now a stealing kil - point that would be better in my eyes:p

Yup, but I'm talking about lighter versions of the weapon type. Obviously the one on Hoth was "one-hit-one-kill", but fighters' ion cannons certainly won't be.

We're not talking about points for using the weapon, we're talking about points for disabling enemies with them, the way you get points for killing enemy troops.

Re: Disable Assist Points

Well ion cannons basically work like, that they overload a ships systems, or if they are set to a very high charge even destroy them.

Shields work like this, they either help against blasters or against ion cannons, you have to choose one of them, they cannot stop both. Unless you have a multi-phased shield.

Re: Disable Assist Points

I wasn't actually discussing the ion effect - since the EMP one will work fine (loss of speed and manoeuvrability for first stage, followed by total loss of control for some time)
