Topic: When the fleets meet...
Okay I have a question. A ground braking question. A question of enormous magnetude.
Is it possible, to make the capital ships dynamic objects that respond to the team commander's orders. Heres what I mean by this. Surely you all know how a commander can click on the map and call down a supply crate. The supply crate is a dynamic object (I assume) that when summoned spawns into the game and moves from the sky down to the ground. So in other words, the commander power summons a dynamic object to the clicked location. Now. Can you possibly code it so that instead of spawning a new object and telling it where to go, you can get it to summon a object already on the field?
Just imagine the implications! The commander would have renewed importance and could order his fleet into position more or less like a RTS! This system would be for the big capital ships, so this solves the problem of not letting the players pilot them becuase of the new BF2 engine.
The way the interface could work would be this. The commander screen would look the same but have a nice little star wars theme to it. Now you know the bank of little icons along the bottom of that commander screen? Well those are crap. Toss em. In that spot, insert new tabs, 1 for each capital ship. You can even name the ships if you want to get fancy. Now these are commander power tabs technically, but they'll be easily reconisable as troops order tabs. The rest is easy. Commander clicks on a ship's tab, say Home One, and he gets the little targeting icon for where he wants to send it. But this dosn't need to recharge, or if thats hardcoded the recharge time can be 1 second.
So what do you think? Devs is this possilbe?
Phew, I'm pretty proud of myself for that idea .
