Topic: Space Vaccum?

Is it possiable to create a space vaccum with the 2142 engine? Would be pretty sweet. I originally suggested this idea for the warp mod, and I don't think anyone was sure that a space vaccum could've been created.

The idea of the space vaccum that I came up with was on a map (now using the Rebels vs. Empire, instead of the Warp mod factions) was that the Rebels invaded a abandoned space station responding to a S.O.S. transmission, now only to find the Empire has staged a trap. In the space station, there were destruciable glass windows, where the Rebels or the Empire could've blasted open to suck their enemies (or themselfs or teammates) into the vaccum of space and die of lack of oxygen.

Re: Space Vaccum?

Dunno for definate but i think it could be faked, yea.  When destroying a windowyou could spawn an invisible object and attatch the pull code of the bf2142mines / new mine disabler unlock.

I have no idea really, since im not 1 of those coding creatures.

Re: Space Vaccum?

I think it'd be possible, but I dunno if it's really plausible.

For one, how many space stations would really make windows out of a material that could easily be shot out?  I mean, General Grevious used an electrostaff, which is basically a more powerful and concentrated version of a blaster rifle, and he's a cyborg, likely with quite a bit of extra strength, and he actually whacked the staff into it.  Take into account all this, and you could probably assume that it would take something like a lightsaber to actually break those windows; blasters would likely reflect, I think.

Secondly, wouldn't it cause a little bit of lag?  I know I occasionally have a small lag spike when vehicles spawn, which don't even affect other people.  If you had to spawn an object that has to detect where each player within 'x' radius is and pull them at 'x' rate, wouldn't that cause just a bit of lag?  I'm not at all game development-savvy, so I'm just making this all up to sound smart, but hey, maybe I'm right tongue

Wouldn't it just be a lot of work for little benefit?

Re: Space Vaccum?

Oh! Oh! Oh! When you blast out the window, a mutant mynock flies in and eats you!

Seriously, though, it'd be interesting if implemented. I don't know if I'd like it on a large scale, but in one or two places it'd be interesting.

Re: Space Vaccum?

The main problem is that unless you do it for a whole ship, it just looks unrealistic. You'll get the situation where a person on one side of a room gets sucked out but a guy on the other side doesn't.

Re: Space Vaccum?

Vacuum sounds great but I think it should require heavy explosives like a proton charge or something.

Re: Space Vaccum?

Space Vaccum in space well sounds nice but as the human body is exposed to the Vaccum of space the
body has nothing to keep the insides in because no pressure holding the body in  it well explode
