Topic: what about dif shields?

Hi guys! just registered with you and i must tell you i am looking more forward to this then any other game...except maybe Crysis coz thats just..wow

anyways i was thinking about shields in this.. could it be possable to have an adjustable shield? like if your in an X-Wing and your being chased by some TIE fighters you can switch power to your rear shield? coz i just watched the originals the other day and noticed alot of dif shields like in ep4 when attacking the Death Star the x-wings set form into attack position and "switch all power to front deflector shields" also in ep6 when the SSD is taken out, just before that one guy shouts "Sir, we've lost the bridge deflector shield!"  so maybe have maybe 2 or 3 keys that switch the shield around to front, rear or normal for space combat.

I am not sure if it would be possible, but it would be neat. I might be able to be tied to the flare function, except not emit flares, just make an invisible sheild in back that blocks most damage for a set time.

Not really sure though, it has been dicussed before I think.

Thats not really neccesary if it were to just deplete over time. And it saves some coding work.

Last I heard it is not really possible to tie weapons and speed into relation to shields , but I might be mistaken.

Ideally, adding power to your aft deflector screen should decrease the power of your forward deflector screen. But I suppose that's not possible.

Also, a TIE Fighter-style system of power management would be great. In TF, you had one source of energy and had to balance recharging/depleting shields, reloading/depleting lasers and ion cannons, and giving power to engines. For example, to move really fast, you could transfer all power to your engines, which depleted your cannon ammunition stores and deflector screens. Or you could transfer power to the cannons' batteries and your deflector screens, causing your fighter to move significantly slower. In addition, you could transfer energy stored in the cannons' batteries to your deflector screens, and the other way around, and move power between forward and  after deflector screens, or even the two out. It was a good system, and I'd love to see it in FS.

However, I also realize it's probably impossible. Static or slow-moving starships can have 'shield zones', as described by me somewhere else on the forum (Link to concept post'), but fighters... I don't think so.
