Topic: Coruscant Map Idea/Ideas

I think you could make a Coruscant map if you make the area small and the depth big. There would be three levels: Upper,Mid, and Lower. Not three maps, three areas. Some buildings would have to have openings for three or four airbuses to pass through, and some would have to be hollow and have maybe three or four floors on each level. You would need little enclosed bridges that connect hollow buildings for infantry to proceed on foot, maybe one or two per level, and hangers in some buildings for airspeeders and airbuses. Buildings would need to have windows and balconys for the infantry to attack speeders. I also think having a square or two would satisfy the need for open areas. If you wanted to, I guess you could make two versions of it, one at day and the other at night. This would allow you add in builings like the Senate Building, 500 Republica, and the Imperial Palace, both for the coolness factor, and because at least one of these was in the original trilogy. The Senate Building was in the background of the end montage of Coruscant in the re-release of the trilogy.

As for vehicles, this would allow you to add elevators to the builings in the map. Of course, they would need to be high speed because your moving between levels. Not all buildings would have them, and you would need to put in at least two in the builings that do have it. One for Upper-Mid, and one for Mid-Lower. You could add Coruscant Police vehicles to the map, and they would be the only armed vehicles. You would also need maybe three or four kinds of airspeeders spread through out the map, and several airbuses. The vehicles could be controlled like the skiffs in GC. At least, thats the only control scheme that I can think would work well. Flying like a plain would be good for maybe one or two vehicles, but not good for the rest. Otherwise, how would you lan in hangers?

Feel free to add on any good ideas.

Re: Coruscant Map Idea/Ideas

Actually a "Rebel cell on Coruscant staging an uprising" might be an excellent infantry map.

Set the map high up in a skyscraper, and turn up the fog level in the map to give an illusion of distance and add an inordinate of scaled-down low poly buildings below the combat area to give a great city feel.

Re: Coruscant Map Idea/Ideas

Yeah, but I was thinking more of a small section of the city, like maybe 15-25 buildings. Though what you suggested could be like the mini-maps in GC. Imagine being able to re-enact the chase scene in Episode 1. Even though the map would seem small, all the buildings would slow down progress across the map because you would have to be making turns constantly and changing altitude alot. Though I guess you could make a mini, a regular, and a huge version if you wanted to. The only problem I can think of would be lag.

Re: Coruscant Map Idea/Ideas

I think that rather than having a group start an uprising (which would be utterly hopeless), it'd be a better idea to have a peaceful White Rose-style organization get exposed and their hideout surrounded by Imperials, for then to let them fight a 'last stand' battle. Just makes more sense to me.

I'd love a Coruscant map either way. Was there fighting in the city between the New Republic and the Empire in EU, or was that just in Force Commander?

Re: Coruscant Map Idea/Ideas

Yeah, there was fighting the city. Almost immediatly after the emperor's death, rebellions started all over the galaxy. Coruscant had all kinds of fights on all levels, and I'm pretty sure the lower levels were the first to be liberated, due to the fact that there wasn't much Imperial presence down there. But the upper levels had the most violent fighting. The garrisons there were actually stretched to the limits( you try holding off attacks from over 3 trillion people). The Imperials held the planet a few years after the Battle of Endor, but there was constant fighting at the Upper-Mid boundarys. The New Republic eventually attacked the planet and what was left of the Imperial Space Navy and drove the Imperials off the planet, creating the Iperial Remenant.
