Topic: Hoth Maps

I'm new here so I may have missed this in my search. While I have ideas, I'm useless for anything more, but I was very disapointed in the Hoth map in Battlefront and Battlefront 2, I wanted to see more of the base done, instead it was basically the hanger and a couple of hallways. As I played it I thought that breaking Hoth into two maps would be much better. Map 1 would be the standard Hoth map in which you had the exterior battle with the AT-ATs and speeders, with a cave-in down the hallway leading from the hanger. The second map would be an interior map, along the lines of what was seen in the Star Wars Trology Arcade Game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Trilogy_Arcade, Shadows of the Empire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars: … the_Empire or Rebel Assault http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebel_Assault. That's actually a good idea, adding lots of the equipment and parked ships and what-not to the hangar and making it really big. Might be too late now, though, I wouldn't be surprised if the hangar has been made an eternity ago.

As for splitting the map in two, I'm less sure of that. By the time the Imperials reached the hangar, the fight was pretty much over, so I don't know if it should be made into a full-fledged map.

What I'd be interested in, however - and this is just musings as the map's probably late in its design stages - is experimenting more with the elements briefly mentioned in the movies, as well as comics and books. For example, Leia (I think) states that the Imperials' main objective will be the power generators, in plural form. The comics depict a scene where an outpost (identified as a 'Listening Station' with a digit code I can't remember) is destroyed by the Imperials.

I'm not sure how these things could be implemented, but it'd be nice if they were. At least having multiple power generators and possibly being able to hamper Rebels and changing the tide of the battle by destroying them would be nice (remember how in Ground Control a base's defensive guns were disabled, most of the time permanently, when you blew up the base's power supply?). Blowing up minor generators causes minor damage, blowing up the main power generator depicted in the film allows the Imperials to land more troops or something, and shuts down all Rebel defenses. Something like that?

i have that book aswell. its very useful. Iv used it to make echobase...tho its obviously cut down for the hoth map.

Hoth will be a pushmap/objective map whereby ,eventually, you'll fight thro and past echo base. It should be a really fun map with some cool setpieces wink

The likelyhood of having a fully fledged , multilevelled echo base infantry interior map ,aswell as the hoth map , is .......quite high smile

An entirely close quarters map like that would be fun. Even though I love the classic BF style maps, it would be nice to have an occasional Iron Gator style map.

I realy have no idea why you brought up Rebel Assault, but it's the best game ever. I loved to play it back then big_smile
