I think simple voice-changers could fix that.  Don't know how they work though, so don't know how it could be implemented.  Though, I doubt it would be possible within the game, and you'd have to find a way to make it so that each person sounds at least somewhat different.

That would be pretty awesome. I doubt it's possible, but you never know...

If it is possible, it should switch from the character VOIP to the regular one when you get out of hearing range, kind of like how in vanilla 2142 you can hear the commands coming from the soldier when in hearing range but they come over the radio when you aren't.

Re: VOIP for your character ??

its not to revolutionized but i had the same idea cause i have that to... i wish there were three voice keys. 1 to talk to the commander, 2 to  talk to squad, and 3 to talk out of the the players voice for anyone who can hear you that close to you so u can tell them "Someone is flanking you"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: VOIP for your character ??

VOIP works better. Sure, Prox Voice would be cool, but a bit irritating, as you have to run after a friend to finish a conversation.

"Yeh, have seen *pant* the new Halo *pant* Blog on Gamespy *pant"

You get the idea. Then one of them gets run down by a jeep for their insolence

The one Voss to rule them all. The one Voss to find them. One Voss to bring them all and FRAG THEM!

I had never heard of "Proximity Voice" before and from reading the first post I also thought it was a fantastic idea

I can understand what Peter12378 (I hope that isn't your credit card PIN! lol;)) is saying that it would get annoying as you would almost need American Football style huddles at the start of the map to set tactics etc. yikes ("go shoot some stormtroopers - BREAK! " lol)

Therefore I do not think Proximity Voice would be suitable as a primary communication method (with VENT & TS being more suitable), however as a secondary method, especially for public play

I think it would be an incredibly innovative addition to a BF2142 mod if it were possible to implement Proximity Voice and would certainly help to make FIRST STRIKE stand out from the crowd of mods and become much more than a BF2142 re-skin (which I think it already is from hearing some of the innovations planned and implemented so far yikes!)

Re: VOIP for your character ??

The VIOP com would be real cool. I've seen a text version used in game (aka WoW) where you could channel chat that anyone in the game on your team could see it (transmitted voice comm), you could Yell something (everyone including the other side could hear it) or you could say something (proximity chat that anyone, including the other side could hear).

This could lead to some rather interesting strategies.

Voice comm: "I'll confuse them, you flank them and take them out"
Yell: "OK, Everyone go this way and take that position"
- Gullible opposition falls for comm fopah -
- teammates flank the enemy and cut them down -

Well, you could always set it so that, as long as someone is holding down the chat button, anyone in range originally hears it no matter how far away they get as long as the button stays pressed down.

IE, you spawn in at the beginning and everyone's there.  You decide to say something in prox chat, so you press down the button and talk.  People run out of range while you're still talking, so they can still hear you.  You let go of the button, then try to say something else in Prox Chat, but because everyone ran off, no one hears it.
