Re: Hoth Insertion

if the tow cable was weak, it would break cause of the horsepower of each leg

Re: Hoth Insertion

Exactly.  If there was only one turn the AT-ATs would have pushed right through the cable.

Re: Hoth Insertion

so they turned three times (I guess) around the legs of the at-at, the more times the more power the tow cable has on the same place

Re: Hoth Insertion

I always thought it had to do with tension.

Ok, who's up for some physics!

<SpecterWolf>    That's ok.. I blew him as well as a few of his buddies up that ditched an apc.. Explosions ftw!

Re: Hoth Insertion

Resistance mainly, but also for tension.

Re: Hoth Insertion

It is completely tension.  The stress on the cable comes from the tension force when the legs move.  The more turns around the ATAT's legs, the less the tension force because it is distributed between each turn around the legs.  The normal friction force between each leg of the ATAT and the cable that is coming into contact with it allows the cable to distribute the tension force.

Re: Hoth Insertion

Yo got the RL physics right, the question is can it be coded into battlefield, wraping an AT-AT up three times in cable seems like one of those things that battlefield just can't handle. But i beg someone to prove me wrong.
