Topic: Vechile damage.

It noticed a post by one fo the dev team wonderign wether you can add vechile area damage ( so like if you get hit on the side your side will be weakened.
Anyway I posted this i'm not sure if anyone saw it. If you just take a look at the game ArmA(a realistic war game) the vechiles have area damagae and it doesnt lag. I suggets takign some of the things from ArmA and usign them?

It's already been discussed there. Safe isn't part of the Dev team though. Or at least if he was.... I didn't know about it....

Anyway, I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure copying code from one game and using it on another, if it were possible in the first place, would be copy right infringement, perhaps. I know other BF: 2 mods were going to take code from BF: 1942 and that came back as illegal as well, so I can only image what it'll be taking something that's outside of the franchise. Plus I'm not even sure how it's (Armed Assault) coded- BF: 2/2142 engine is codded with Python.... C++ for the hard code (not sure, a dev will have to correct me on that), while Armed Assault could use a different language.

However, I too play Armed Assault and dang is it fun! You're definitely right and they have vehicle damage down to a T, good net code too, hardly any lag.

Re: Vechile damage.

I never actually thought of that...the Armour getting damaged so the next hit hurts more? That seems like it would be hard to do though...

Re: Vechile damage.

You can presumably cover the vehicle with layers of child objects that deflect the first hits, but other than that, I can't think of a way to do this.

Re: Vechile damage.

well on Arma if your wheels get hit you can't move so it must be possible to program this.

Re: Vechile damage.

Games are made in different programming languages, so you can't simply copy code from one source to another, sadly. BF2142, and thus FS, uses the Refractor (?) engine, while ArmA is based on something else. So no such luck.

Safe isn't part of the Dev team though. Or at least if he was.... I didn't know about it....

Nope, no such luck. I was offered a testing slot, but they found it would be bit hard for me to test the game without actually owning BF2142, so they kicked me out tongue .
