To change the subject completely, I appreciate that the Y-Wing will apparently carry proton torpedoes and not bombs. In fact, you can actually see what I believe to be proton torpedo tubes on the underside of the cockpit. Nice attention to detail.

Truly. wink Far too many times the Y-wing has been inaccurately pidgeon-holed in the "bombers-only" category by LA in stark contrast to the plethora of official technical material that states otherwise. In the Rogue Squadron Trilgoy, it was quite vexing that Factor 5 constantly equipped the Y-wing with (rechargable?) proton bombs in every mission, save for the Battle of Yavin, despite only a few mission profiles requiring it. On top of that, they only equipped it with six torps rather than the correct maximum payload of eight. And what's with the proton bombs ejecting south in everyspace map?  And no boost? roll

I'm not even going to touch what Larry Holland had done to it in the X-wing/T.I.E. series. hmm tongue

Re: Dev Diary 16 - YoshiBoy, and Front page update

Like i said before, very accurate model/textures, and the Y-wing fits more as a fighter/bomber than a bomber alone, the TIE-bomber serves that role, think about it, Imperials have more numbers and force and can afford to produce slower and sluggish planes in mass numbers. Rebels rely on hit 'n run and need a bomber which fires its 'bomb' and flies away straight after.

Atleast, i think that was one of the reasons the y-wing was designed that way.

Well the Y-Wing was the Rebellion's primary starfighter before the X-Wing came along so it certainly is not a dedicated bomber.

Re: Dev Diary 16 - YoshiBoy, and Front page update

So true. The Y-wing is actually a fantastic multi-role craft. It's also insanely versatile and easy to modify and upgrade. It's not a perfect craft, but what it does it does very well. And it does many things. lol Not to mention it's such a kick-ass looking fighter. lol

It's unfortunate that it's been portrayed as an incredibly slow and unmaneuverable fighter countless times in EU material.

If I recall correctly, the Y-wing predates the X-wing by about 5-6 years, and the X-wing entered Alliance service about 2 years prior to the Battle of Yavin. So the Y-wing would have entered Alliance service about 7-8 years prior to the Battle of Yavin. I'll have to double check to make sure. lol wink

Really? tongue

I meant the Imperials dont really have a need for a fighter/model because they can afford much more, rebels dont, thats why they need such craft as y-wings. Tie bombers serve the role as true bombers in the SW universe. Didnt meant to say that y-wing/tie bombers were on the same side, my bad.

Blush indeed I did. I went on holiday the same day the update was out so I just got all the feedback now. Thanks guys, glad you think I've done the craft justice wink

I should maybe point out the glowing windows were a max rendering effect but in game they should be VERY similar - probably better looking in fact.
