Topic: Installing 2142 Problem

I've been to 5 other forums, and as a last resort, I turn to you guys. I recently started having some trouble loading maps. It would stop at around 60%. I neglected to turn to the forums, and attempted to troubleshoot all on my own. I realize now that was a mistake. I had trouble reinstalling. I kept getting this message at about 1/5 the way:

It was suggested that I cleaned my registry, used the System Restore, and reformat. I have not yet done the reformatting.

Any other suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated. If I can't play this game around your release...I don't know what I'll do. big_smile

EDIT: It's a tad hard to see. It stops at:

C:\...\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods\bf2142\Sounds_client.zip

Message: Failed to install Battlefield 2142, try again from the beginning.

Any of your friends got this game? Ask one to borrow his DVD. Cos I think there's scratch on your DVD.

You can also try to create folder and manually transfer files from DVD to that folder and see if DVD lets you transfer files and if it does you can install game from that folder by clicking setup.exe. This one helped me with one scratched game which didn't install normally and stuck just like your BF2142 seems to do now.

It was recently suggested that I download a torrent version and then use my CD key. Would that work? And are there any differences between the disc and the torrent?

I've never used any torrents, so if this would work, can someone link me and give brief description on what to do.

Did you already try to transfer files manually from DVD to computer?

I think downloading BF2142 with torrent is illegal since you have to share downloaded files to other people and they might not have the game at all.

Someone just posted a whole bunch of steps how to do that. Thanks for your help, I'll try it in the morning.

I will report back with the results. There is no way in hell I'm missing this mod. wink

Turns out there is something wrong with the 'data2' file of my 2142 disc. I tried to manually install it and an error came up regarding data2. Should I buy a new game or is there some other solution?

Is there deep stratch in your DVD? If there isn't send email to EA customer service tell your problem and they must send you new game. If there is I guess you have to buy new game... sad
