Re: Video walkthrough of upcoming version 1.0?

Simply put, we have too much stuff and not enough time to make an instructional video before release.
Although, if I can remember correctly, there may be some kind of online information about our items; kind of like a pseudo-manual. I'll have to check my sources, though everyone on the team is unbelievably busy right now.

They probably are. The problem is that Project Reality had extensive guide for people but fact is that fraction of people actually read it. This is quite obvious when you play the game. Players do not know anything about the new stuff and its quite pain in the *** for commanders who rely on others to build stuff.

Ive commanded quite a few times in PR and i usually end up simply building everything myself. This means i have to suicide and respawn as engineer/rifleman with a shovel. Using this as example, if PR had made a simple video showing in-game video showing how to use the shovel etc., there would be far less people in the "dark" when it comes to understanding some of the "need to know" stuff of the game.

Why not group of game testers do this with fraps or something? It doesnt really need to be very complex or fancy. Only needs someone capable of speaking english or you can just use "subtitles" to comment things. Actually, forget comments. Video with sound of some sort is enough. Id do it myself but i dont have 2142 (yet) nor access to FS.

Anyways, its understandable if theres no time for this. sad

The testers are also busy, testing.

If it is to fool the devs into giving you FS earlier, nice trick, but it wont work. wink

If I were the devs, I'd put some 'Read the manual for more info' reminders in the game at various places. But yes, people  become incredibly illiterate once they get in-game. Typical example is GC maps which had their objectives spelled out very clearly in a pop-up box that was shown at game start. Players routinely avoided reading these boxes with a vigor reminiscent of fundies shunning Harry Potter books, only to spam questions on objectives in-game. hamsters, how irritating that was.

I think putting a rather direct, to-the-point message in the install and as a forum sticky might help, too.
