Topic: Monitor probs; omg not now!

5 days to release... and..

My monitor is dying. This would happen to me.

I can't complain... it's like 10 year old... but... now???

so... anyone have any good tips on a cheapish-goodish flat-screen... preferrably around the 19-20" range?

I usually trust these kinds of things to NewEgg... but with monitors you usually have to literally "see it to beleive it"

oh.... angst...

They usually have some pretty good deals.
Bought things from them numerous times, and have never had a problem or a delay.
Good luck with your purchase.

Do..or do not, there is no try !

Re: Monitor probs; omg not now!

Thanks for the tips...

Any suggestions on size and specs of monitors?

I've got a 19" CRT... and i'll be brand new to this LCD game... heck, the word "widescreen" still makes me queasy... then i gotta start worrying about contrast ratio, update timing, pixel pitch...

so.. really, the question is... what widescreen lcd is comprable to a 20" CRT (0.26 dot pitch) running at 1280x1024, ~80mhz

Re: Monitor probs; omg not now!

if you dont want to fhave to go trough trouble with games not supporting widescreen (like 2142) without forcing them, and you seen the force streching at 1280x1024 on normal monitors already(like i do )
i wouldnt go for widescreen. but a 4:3 screen (1280:1024 = 16:9)
www.newegg.com i always find a nice site to look at, even if i live in Europe

If you are going to get a new one I would go for wide-screen. Do not let the fact that BF2142 does not support it stop you. You are upgrading. Go for something that well last and might be needed in the future. You can always make the game work on it. My brother uses a wide-screen for the game with out any problems. for monitors I would go to the store like a BestBuy or CompUSA and look at a them to see which ones have the best picture and the prices they have then go online and check their prices. If the store has a better deal then go their if not get it on line. But you should go look at the ones in the store to see the brands in person before you buy.

Re: Monitor probs; omg not now!

Yano... i've always wondered why widescreen monitors don't have a 4:3 emulation mode that simply shuts down the excess sides... or am i wrong in assuming this?

tbh... i really hate that stretched out look.. so unless you can do that ( i realize that would turn a 20" w/s into a ~16" 4:3..), i'm leaning to 4:3... partially because i really like to re-install old game (I still play warcraft 2 on occasion)
