Topic: Shaders/StaticMeshes.fx fix

There seems to be a lot of people who are getting this issue. We don't know exactly what is causing this problem, and we have never encountered it before todays release.

There are 3 things you may want to try.

1:
Please check your 'target' path and the 'start in' sections of the shortcut. To do this 'right-click' on the desktop shortcut and select properties and select the Shortcut tab.
Then check your 'target', by default it should say this...

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142Launcher.exe" +modPath mods/FirstStrike +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

If it does not, please copy and paste this into your 'target' box.

Secondly make sure the 'start in' section says this...

"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142"

If it does not, please copy and paste this into your 'start in' box.

(note: if you have a different directory this will not work. You will need to find the directory in which you installed BF2142 and use that path instead.
eg: "D:\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142Launcher.exe" +modPath mods/FirstStrike +menu 1 +fullscreen 1    for 'target' and
"D:\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142"   for 'start in'.)

2:
If this does not work, try running "Regular Battlefield 2142" go to the 'Community" tab and activate the mod from there. This has also been known to work.

3:
ADULTSWIM says that he has discovered another workaround for this issue, so please try it and get back to us if it works.

Delete the mod and reinstall. When its asks where, the default is something like program files/ea/battlefield 2142/ but...
1. add 'mods' to the end of that.
2. start up the mod... it will ask where the 2142.exe is... browse and find it.  It will start then crash.
3. go into the mods folder and you will see first strike and another mods folder.  Go into the second mods folder (which is the one you created) where you will find another First Strike folder.  Cut everything inside that folder.
4. Go back out and paste everything into the First Strike folder located in the 1st mods folder.
5. Delete the empty mods folder.
6. Click on the short cut to start the game.

In my opinion,,, something is happening with the creation of the settings folder upon the automatic duplication of your profile (which is located in the settings folder) upon starting up the game for the first time.  I know its confusing but it worked for me.  I'm gonna play the game now fellas, hope I was able to help you.

Re: Shaders/StaticMeshes.fx fix

Also this has been discovered:

Quemical: I got it to work. I re-installed it and it works fine now. It might have been that i was still sharing the file with the torrent software when i first installed it, that caused the problem

Re: Shaders/StaticMeshes.fx fix

I was having the same problem after modifying my short cut to force a custom resolution using +szx 1280 +szy 1024 in the path.

I then modified the Start In path to read "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142"

I dropped the FirstStrike from the end and voila it worked!!!!

Re: Shaders/StaticMeshes.fx fix

Ok thanks for that Snowdog, we'll make sure we get that fixed asap.

Re: Shaders/StaticMeshes.fx fix

Sorry but i tried out what FSDev| rybot said but there's nowhere a second firststrike folder or shortcut!!!  mad
And it means a lot of people (me included) can't play and enjoy this modification... yikes

Please send some useful advice... hmm

Greetz,
SKULLs DEAD

PS:  @ snowdog: i live in germany and windows doesn't has the standard directory of "c:\program files" here it's called "C:\program\..." and i already tried this directory: "C:\program\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods\FirstStrike" same result... (crash) ...and i won't create a new folder on my harddrive with the english translation of "program"!!
it's not worth...
and further on my directory of Bf2142 is "D:\Spiele\Battlefield 2142" so its completely different to the standard directory you mean...

Re: Shaders/StaticMeshes.fx fix

Skulls Dead, that explains your problem, you need to install Firststrike in your BF2142 Directory which I assume from your above post is: ("D:\Spiele\Battlefield 2142")

Follow these instructions and you won't go wrong.

1-Find the Firststrike Folder, copy and paste into: D:\Spiele\Battlefield 2142\mods
2-Click on properties on your Firststrike Mod Shortcut
3-Change the "Start In" line from ("C:\program\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods\FirstStrike") to ("D:\Spiele\Battlefield 2142")

You may also need to change the "Target Path" directory in the shortcut to match.

That should fix your problem.

Re: Shaders/StaticMeshes.fx fix

lol thats funny *gg*
i installed the mod where i already installed bf2142... (D:\....)
BUT: there is no second  firststrike folder, shortcut or any else...
and your installer recognized my bf2142 folder so the only shortcut for firststrike is already set at the right game folder^^

my error is shown in a screen in the german support forum...or below wink
it appears when the standard bf2142 start screen disappear (then comes a black screen and dong the error occurs...

dont know what to do now... tongue
