Topic: A Question and some thoughts...
Hello,
First off, FANTASTIC job with this mod.
I have longed for a game that can actually make you feel like you're in Star Wars, and this does a fair job for a first release. From the blaster-sounds to the "Rebel scum!" taunts, well done.
Now for the question... on Mos Espa, is there any functionality in the imperial shuttle? It obviously keys into the storyline, and acts as a spawn point, but I saw lots of chairs and consoles and thought I should at least ask...
And some random suggestions, not to complain (because I really really appreciate everything you've done and continue to do), but in the hopes that you'll find this information beneficial in making the best game possible:
1. Suggestion for your Documentation / FAQs
When I first installed FirstStrike, it crashed immediately upon trying to optimize shaders. Now I know you're working hard enough fixing bugs, but in your documentation and FAQs, you should point out this solution: Uninstall FirstStrike, and reinstall it.
This immediately fixed my mysterious problem, and as this solution seems to fix many other quality programs out there, it seems like a basic troubleshooting step that should be mentioned.
2. Brighter Rooms
Some rooms are just too dark. Take for example Escape from Hoth, that Imperial Destroyer is gorgeous but it's lit by a 40-watt bulb. When I first played there, I looked around, took a step into darkness, and fell 100 feet onto the deck and died. After increasing my monitor brightness, then I saw where to go... but if you could help us with this, it'd be much appreciated.
3. The Screams
When I first fell-down onto the Destroyer's deck and died, I screamed of course. It's only natural.
For the rest of that game, every time I spawned on the destroyer, there'd be 10 seconds of silence followed by a huge death-scream again-- like someone had just died but nobody was actually there.
Don't know if it was because of my initial fall, or some other bug, but I thought you should know.
4. Command by Map
Don't know if you already have this on your to-do list, but it'd be great if we could right-click an objective on the Squad Management map, and be able to place an Attack / Defend command.
Currently, I can only place Move commands from the CAPS LOCK map. This is a super-handy functionality feature, and will help squad leaders everywhere.
5. Weapon Descriptions when Going Up
Moving the mouse-cursor over a weapon (in the Customize Kit window) gives you a description of the weapon. Unless you start at a lower-positioned weapon, in which case, moving the mouse cursor up to other weapons will not yield any further descriptions. So to get descriptions, you either come from the side, or go from top to bottom. A little weird, but hopefully not too difficult to fix.
Thanks again, look forward to seeing the release that is coming next from you folks...
ShadowfaxSTF is the name you'll see, as I strike first. The FS Manual, a must-read.
