Topic: Ping reduction

Ping only ever seems to be a problem for me with BF2 and BF2142, any other game its rather stable, but in these games it varies constantly from 40 to 100+. Just a few moments ago I was playing on a server, suddenly I see in the bottom of the screen "WARNING KICKING RED-SHIRT FOR HIGH PING[ADMIN DECISION]" Boom, kicked. Now on this server my ping was around 60 when i joined and was around that level, when I saw the message it was at about 100. but in a 42 man server there were a few at 80-100.

I was kicked, had to wait a minute then I rejoined, different map, ping back at 60. 10 mins into the game I see the warning again. I mean its not like the entire server was freezing up or anything, in fact I didn't even notice a thing. I was with 2-3 squad mates capping a relativity distant and quiet flag.

So I rejoin a 3rd time. Before i can even spawn I'm kicked again, this time with a different message, saying I was kicked due to a kickvote or admin kick. Tried to get back on, says I'm banned.

Now is a 100 Pinger really such a threat? will 1 guy with a ping that occasionally spikes to 100 bring down the entire server and cause the world to erupt in flames.

Now I am on a router, and no matter what I try Bf2 and 2142 has always given me problems with my ping, with source game I get a hickup when i first try to play online, The connection to server normally pings out on the loading screen or just as the motd pops up, after that 1 hickup I can play for as long as I wish, join any server, so long as I don't exit the game.

So my question, is there a way to reduce my ping, or fake it so I can play in peace? because every other server in my browser thats populated is 150+, I join the 60 ping server and I get kicked/banned 10 mins into the game because my ping spikes.

Re: Ping reduction

Well the obvious method is to shut down any programs your running that use the internet, things like MSN really kill my ping.  Also stop any downloads obviously...  Other than that I'm not sure what you could do.

Re: Ping reduction

mybe this is a dumb question but what is a high ping, the lower the better?  i ping at about 75-100 most of the time....but most servers have a ping of atlest 100-200, so why do i keep having connection problems?   Bf2142 does the same thing......i just dont get it.

Re: Ping reduction

Yeah, the lower the better. AFAIK to lower ping there are 2 things  you can do ...

1.) Get a faster internet connection

2.) Get a modem/ router that uses a faster transfe rate

3.) Get a high end NIC card designed for gaming

Other then that I would like to learn more, as well.

Ping measures the speed of your connection to the specific server, so if you have a ping of 200 ms you will have 1/5th of a second delay. And that is a lot in FPS.

It is not to be confused with bandwidth, which tells you how much data you can move, but not how fast it moves.

Try using www.speedtest.net, if that shows a high ping then it will only get worse when you connect to a server.
Here is my own test as an example

but hey who cares :S

are you selecting servers with the lowest ping possible?
if your searching in advanced order then by there ping and then press refresh onces.
also servers in your own country are the onces you should take. if there are any

Re: Ping reduction

Yes I's selecting a low ping server, typically in the 60's to 70's
I do use advanced, but I sort of players, then I browse down, find one with a high pop and low ping, then refresh before joining.

I like in the UK, this server was in Germany.

Heh, unlike yourselves the nearest testing server is over 200 miles from me >_>

Not particularly happy with BT atm, considering its meant to be a 10mb line.
