Topic: Y-Wings Rule!!

I just posted a short mini-review after playing a few hours last night on my clan's web site.

I just wanted to share my favorite things with the community here though:

Its pretty short so I'll just repost it here:

"2142: First Strike Mod R1 - First impressions...

First Strike Mod was released on the 28th at midnight GMT and I, like many others in anticipation eagerly downloaded it as soon as it became available.

I wasn't able to play very long with it last night, and as the mod was just released there weren't many populated servers to choose from yet so keep in mind this is just a limited review.

Basically, if you like Star Wars you'll love this mod. The music is great, the in-game sounds are even better. The blasters are crisp and sound great, and the vehichles sound as perfect and realistic as in the movies. The in-game voices have all been re-done expertly as well.

I didn't play much on the land maps, other then to try the vehichles and shoot some blasters on empty servers. Tattooine's Mos Espa map is a little laggy though, most likely due to all the intricate statics that make up the desert town.

The space battles are where the mod really shines though. X-Wings vs Tie fighters is always fun, but I've fallen in love with the Y-Wing! If you've ever manned a gun on a Titan in 2142 you know how boring it is... Now try manning the turret on a Y-Wing and feel what REAL action is!!

I thought for sure I would love piloting X-Wings, but to be honest I have more fun hopping in the turret of a Y-Wing. The great thing is you can spawn on a Y-Wing after a pilot has taken off with it whether you are on the same squad or not. I love forced teamwork! Its so awesome to see a Tie fighter come up and line himself up for an 'easy shot' on the y-wing from behind, then blasting the unsuspecting son of a bitch to a million peices.

Believe it or not, even though you have complete 3D freedom in space you don't get lost that easily once you get the hang of it. The FS Devs did a great job of bringing space battles to the 2142 engine!

I can't wait for R2 and more maps!

Re: Y-Wings Rule!!

That's a nice write-up big_smile  I have to admit, as soon as I jump in-game I plan to do so into a Y-Wing gunner's seat.

There's nothing more satisfying than tracking a TIE Fighter "silently" as if the gun won't fire, and as soon as that bitch gets his face really close, you unload on him.

So true my friend. So true. Y-wings kick serious buttocks. lol wink

What I'm still blown away with, is how technically accurate the Y-wing is. It's not quite perfect, but it's the MOST ACCURATE portrayal of the Y-wing yet. Period. No official LA Star Wars game or any mod I've played has done this good of a job portraying the Y-wing like it's film counterpart. Which is saying A LOT because, typically, the Y-wing would be the most technically srewed up fighter in any Star Wars game that would feature it.

Well done guys! Stunning work! *puts thumbs up* I can't wait 'till you get R2 up and going. *slobbers on keyboard* I'm having the time of my life. lol

Re: Y-Wings Rule!!

I love the space battles and the TIE is my favorite. I can handle just about anybody, except a good Y-Wing crew!

Re: Y-Wings Rule!!

The Y-wing is great! When you have a good gunner and about 3-4 y-wings you can keep a ship disabled and pwn the crap out of it at the same time big_smile Thats why im liking the B-wing alot more because it makes life so easy because of the Ion cannon.

I had my pilot in a Y-wing deside to go afk and stop, so I switched to the ion cannons to see if they really did something and managed to disable an oncoming Tie bomber it was funny because he couldent do anything and when he started to move a little I hit him again it was amusing.

Re: Y-Wings Rule!!

ion cannon? is it the one in the turret right? to me it seems to be a normal laser, or can you switch it to another firing mode??
