Re: Escape From Hoth

the thing is, i only got hit ONCE while piloting a gallofree to the jump piont (i have piloted about 5-7 yet) and i doubt that the ppl on the server knew about the turbolasers

leading me to my question: sometimes ppl get "kills" by using "turbolasers", so is there any way to actually man those turrets or is it some random engine bug (since u have been the last guy who damaged that ship etc. etc.)

The imperial star destroyer has a number of automated high-caliber cannons and turrets scattered about its surface. On each of the ISDs flanks there are 4 high-caliber cannons that look like large rotating discs that will automatically DESTROY ANY GALLOFREE that gets too close WITHIN SECONDS unless they have previously been disabled. Read that again. And again.

With all due respect to the developers, isn't that a bit illogical? Isn't the whole ship have been disabled by ion cannon fire?

I also find it a bit odd that it can still launch TIEs with its electronics and launch control systems shot, and that TIEs maybe should spawn in space instead, to simulate them coming from another ship. But that's nitpicking.

Lore-wise al turbolasers are on a seperate circuit with their own redundant power supply targeting and the likes.

I have been wondering the exact same thing. There is supposedly no way to control those turbolasers, so where do those turbolaser kills the imperial team sometimes get come from?

The imperial team sometimes get a periodically spawning lancer frigate (the version of the map seems to differ between servers in layout and ship availability) but that has no turbolasers, does it? Turrets, sure, but a kill from one of those should list the kill as coming from a "lancer", not a "turbolaser"!

Have I missed another easter egg on this map about the controlability of those turbolasers? I sure feel like I've searched everywhere for a way to get into them while on the imperial team, but to no avail. I can't really claim to know for sure that there isn't one, though.

Re: Escape From Hoth

This could be a very strange occurance where a player is shooting another player and he runs into a turret and is destroyed, when this happens the player who was shooting him will get a kill from the collision he causes by firing upon the other player.

I have gotten this a load of times

I have gotten kills with an A wing when I am piloting a TIE fighter because a guy I Was shooting ran into another guy. I got one kill from shooting the guy down, and ANOTHER from killing the other player with the guys A wing I Was shooting down...

Get it?  It's pretty cool the engine takes these thigns into account.

Re: Escape From Hoth

My advice for the Rebel team is:

1) Take out the ISD turret bank before your Troop Transports make it into range

2) Don't get caught up in fighting with the TIE escorts, destroy the bombers

3) Transport pilots should fly together in a close-formation group

4) Transport pilots should use the left and right mouse buttons to activate top/bottom shielding at appropriate times (I think the shield will get a slight visual effect and sound indication in a future patch)

I get it. It seems a bit odd that rebels getting shot by TIEs only to careen into a turbolaser would be such a commonplace occurence that so many have witnessed its effects, though.

Also, the last time I saw it the strange "turbolaser" got THREE rebels killed at once! No rebel snubfighter can carry three people, so either at least two snubfighters collided with a turbolaser at the exact same moment after having been shot by the same imperial, or it was a gallofree or corvette that crashed into the turbolaser! This definitely seems incredible!

Re: Escape From Hoth

Did it say a player killed them? That is really weird.
