Topic: Y wing balance issues

Having played a few space battles in FS, I have found the Y wing, when controlled by pilot and gunner, to be immensly powerful. Tie fighters and the like don't stand a chance up against them. Is this waht you intended or is there a balance issue here?

Not being a smart-a#$ here, attack it with 2 tie fighters.   Teamwork is huge in this mod.

Cheers!

Re: Y wing balance issues

That's all very well but i have two points to counter this.

1. Tie fighters really should be superior to bombers. Since when have bombers been better at dogfights than the fighters themselves?

2. Even two fighters are easy pickings if you have an average joe on the guns.

3. I miss the y wings ion cannon.

Re: Y wing balance issues

I would say no, at least not yet. When people playing the Rebels actually coordinate the use of the Y-wings then it may become an issue. At this point in the game people jump in the Y and head into battle with or without a gunner, with or without a wingman.

Now imagine three Y-wings flying in a close formation with the middle craft flying upside down relative to the other 2. This allows covering fire in all directions. Add in one or two X-wings and the formation becomes very powerful. Just getting to the target is no longer a lone and risky flight. Chances of landing some torpedoes has gone way up.

Agreed that a good crew in a Y-wing is going to win nearly every 1 vs 1 encounter. But I'm sure the devs are expecting to see the teamwork factor upped a notch in these types of situations.

yes i agree. I guess sometimes you gotta sacrifice some authenticity for gameplay sometimes.

1. TIE's are with repect to the crafts design. The TIE is far more manuverable. Y-Wing is more of a weapons platform. If a Y has no gunner it doesn't last 30 seconds in a dogfight with two evenly matched pilots.

2. Only if they are lining themselves up to become easy targets. The angle a TIE approaches a Y is crucial. I try to come in from underneath.

Re: Y wing balance issues

y wing is not designed as a weapons platform but as a bomber. Things like the B wing are more weapons platform. Traditionally the y wing has had limited defensive measured save for the ion cannon which i really want to see!
