Re: Lucas Arts
May I remind anyone doubting that a holder of IP will shut a good mod down because they're developing something similar themselves of Halogen's fate? I work for the mod team that produced it, though didn't work on that mod itself. Essentially, MS sent a cease and desist only because they were developing Halo Wars. Now, Halogen wasn't released, it was still in beta, and FS is everywhere over the net, but my experiences cause me to look at using someone else's IP in a mod suspiciously, because at any time they can change their mind and fox you.

Re: Lucas Arts
No, not really. Lucas Arts is cool about fan fiction, et cetera, and they have a set of rules (which are far from restricting) that you have to follow. If you follow, they're not going to do anything to you. If you ignore the rules, then they might lay the smackdown on you if they feel you're putting their money making ability in danger. And given the popularity of star wars, and the popularity of fan made stuff, and that LA is a somewhat down to earth company, they're not going to suddenly outlaw fan made things.

Re: Lucas Arts
Interesting discussion , I may put out that LucasArts IS releasing SW Battlefront 3 , in fact next month or sooner on the PSP , If you want to avoid a LUCASARTS legal fiascoe keep this mod low profile , dont accept offers to have it featured in some PC gaming mag in their Xtras disk . I'm sure if Legal Dept receives a memo to screen your content for infringements , you'll know soon enough. As for those members bad mouthing SWBF2 , as not being strategic I was part of a organized tourney for it Battle For the Galaxy , and we had space battle and infantry maps , for Imperials and Rebels every weekend , with teamSpeak channels segregated for both sides. We were in the process of making custom maps and it was very strategic , FYI not everyone played an engineer with a shotgun either . But yes , it IS TRUE that LUCASARTS abandoned SWBF2 within 4 months since its debut , and are currently abandoning the PC market for it's Star Wars games with the omission of Force Unleashed for PCs.

They are going to be fine, the more publicity the better. The worst thing to come form more publicity is more noobs on my forums!
