Re: My Two Credits

So aside from the weapons, the space maps, the game modes, and the classes, you like everything else, right? tongue

Please don't tell me you will be one of those people who hates 90% of a mod but continues to torture yourself by playing it, in hopes we will some day fix every one of your dislikes, because you can save a lot of time, energy, and life by not bothering with it in the first place(sorry cheeky remark, I had to smile ). Don't get me wrong, you have valid points but the point I'm trying to make is you seem to want the majority of the mod to be completely different from how it is now. Maybe it will be more like you want it to be in 2-3 releases from now, maybe not.

If you aren't enjoying it now, I wouldn't hold much hope you will enjoy it in the future. Yes, it will improve, but not necessarily in the ways you wish. So unless you find SOMETHING you like in there right now, I just dont see the point in playing it. I know I don't play games I don't like.

No, this isn't a whiny "don't play it then" response...I'm just trying to understand if you even like the game to begin with. If we cater to people who don't enjoy our mod, and probably never will enjoy our mod, then we'd be wasting time, energy, and life that we can never get back.

I reserve the right to withdraw these final words in the event that you take my post too seriously:

Re: My Two Credits

Some good points eloquently presented there, Stevanyss, and I'm sure the dev team will give all your suggestions due consideration.

That said, I don't agree with everything you listed (and on some points I don't really have an opinion). For one thing, I strongly agree with Bandu that "variety is the spice of life". Even if a certain weapon type is in every way more or less inferior to another (which is NOT the case with biotic and sonic grenades - they are able to do damage through walls, unlike a frag grenade), that doesn't mean it's not suitable for as a armaments complement to a less combat-oriented class.

For another, I would like to point out that despite all the apparent randomness and futility of space combat and dogfights, there are still quite a few of us who prefer space maps to infantry maps. There are definitely tactical elements to space battle as it goes in FS, especially if you manage to form a working squad with a voice-link. Sure, the one-on-one dogfight merry-go-round can be immensely frustrating, but for one thing it's a situation you should most often be able to avoid assuming you are not flying alone and without a gunner, and for another there are ways to break even such a deadlock (not including calling on your teammates to help you shake your follower, which would seem the most obvious solution). In any case, the dev team definitely did not waste their time in developing space combat.

That said, the space maps quickly become virtually unplayable with more than 32 players on. Space-battle performance in large firefights is in DIRE need of improvement.

Re: My Two Credits

I agree with a couple things here, and disagree with a lot of others.

First, I agree that some weapons need better settling rates (however imo the base accuracy is perfect now), the biggest culprit being the trooper "AR's", the blastek.....something, and the rebel equivelent.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't trooper suppose to be the de facto "assault" class? The slow, slowww, settling rate of the trooper rifles relegates them to more sit and wait duties. On the other hand, the heavy weapon's repeating blaster settles a little too fast (from movement, not firing) imo, though I guess that they need to be able to put down quick suppressing fire when they get someplace.

The sniper and flecchete are fine, though the sniper could use a meter for the stablizer, so I know when I can use it again.

The carbines are perfect imo (the medic rifles right?), the imp one being my fav gun(well, blaster) atm. The uber-pistols that are the other medic weapon choice could use some faster settling, but maybe I just need to suck less with it. roll

The support's rifle is fine considering it's power, but I wouldn't argue settling changes to it as well.

For what it's worth, the officer pistol is awesome.

Anyway, I disagree with what you say about the bio grenades, they are hella fun to use and they should never be taken out, variety is what makes most people play mods, and you guys deliver it in spades. Buff for sonics though? big_smile

Lastly, I LOVE the endor "push" gametype, really focus's people on offense or defense, instead of just wandering around. (You'd think I'd like sneaking around by my name, but I'm a fan of big old-fashioned gunfights, none of this "tactical sneaking squad" BS like in rainbows six/America's army type games. Sorry if that was off on a tangent), the battle are counted in feet (or meters tongue ) during some parts.

While I'm not really a fan of space I think it's well done, you got my props on it. cool

Edit: Sorry to whine, but thought about making class icons on the scoreboard (for you own team of course)? Get really lost on what class to pick sometimes! In vanilla I would always go by what everyone else was, say support and recon, and pick the opposite. (like medic)

Re: My Two Credits

well, i also noticed the hit detection with blasters is kinda crappy sometimes, thats the engine for sure (since i play officer quite often i use my handgun as primary weapon, sometimes i shoot at a guy 3 times, then hide and 0.5 seconds later i see i killed him. ofc the blaster bolt takes some time to travel, but between the time i actually SEE the bolt hitting him and the time i get the Hit Indicator its like 0.2 seconds delay, which makes it really hard to aim on a moving target with a single shot blaster weapon

so my suggestion would be something like to make the visible bolt somewhat behind the actual bolt, so it kinda balances this thing, i just dunno if its possible though

Never though of that, excellent suggestion.

Re: My Two Credits

I dont think that there is that much wrong with the settling rate.

You'll notice that the more harsh setting rates are only when you jump or insta prone. This is to try and limit the usefulness of bunny hopping and insta-proning/dolphin diving , which plagues the BF series.

Ya know, I haven't really thought to mention it, but its amazing how much I still see people going strait to prone when the see me...sometime at longer ranges I don't mind, but when I turn a corner and a guys sees me and hits 'z' as fast as he can and shoots me, it really pisses me off. I'm one of the people that never prones at the start of the fire fight. And when somebody else does, I still almost get killed 80% of the time(I doubt its just because of me).

Are there any military specialists around that can tell me if you can even be ready to fire less then a second after you hit the ground?
