Re: LAGUERINIERE(battle of hoth)

Great work!

On a somewhat unrelated note... this map relates to one thing which I think devs will frequently overlook. In striving for lore accuracy, fun will frequently be sacrificed. No, not always, and there can be a such thing as *too many* extras thrown into a map...

But, some of the interesting parts of BF1942/Desert Combat were maps that were "Day Two" or something similar. Or, the standard BF1942 maps with DC vehicles. Some of the coolest parts of that were driving/flying vehicles which *were not* there in 'real life'.

I'm just saying; an ice planet with an internal mountainside hangar, multiple fighters and ground vehicles... ultra sweet. This thing could be called "Return to Hoth", make it happen post-Episode VI... The remains of the Empire has what's left of the old rebel base, capturing Wampas to drop into Rebel Bases around the galaxy before an attack, to "soften them up"... I dont' know. Descriptions can be fit; I just like maps with things that are possible *and* probable, just not necessarily obvious and expected.

Edit: No, I'm not saying we should have Wampas in the game. Just looking for a reason for the Empire to set up a base on Hoth. roll

None of us are striving for 100% lore accuracy (well maybe some wink)... In fact many do put fun ahead of lore. I for one barely know any lore lol.

The difference here is what *makes sense* and what not. Desert Combat took place on Earth, in the desert. El Alamein existed during the gulf war just as it did during WW2: the place hasnt changed. Granted they didnt fight there... But it wasnt all that strange to the theme.

Star Wars is a WHOLE OTHER UNIVERSE. AT-ST walkers in Camp Gibraltar? Sort of fun, but breaks any illusion.

And we have already done what you suggest. Take a look at Endor Strike Team. Unfortunely named, its not about the movie strike team at all. The events take place just after Han has gone into the bunker. Tatooine Mos Espa and Entha isnt even in the movies, its just "known battles". Taloraan, same thing.

Keep in mind though that there is a specific era here... No "remains of the Empire". The Empire and the Rebellion is very much alive and at war with each other. Other than that, the range of possible battles is enormous.

Re: LAGUERINIERE(battle of hoth)

dawdler Ok, I think you took that as a bit more... critical than I'd meant it.

I'm just saying two things:

1. I like the possibility of maps which are, overall, the same, but can be used in very different ways.  Different vehicles, intact buildings destroyed on map 2, etc.

2. Vehicles which are not expected, but actually make perfect sense: T-47 Airspeeders on other planets, not just Hoth (they were specially modified to become Snowspeeders).

I'm not expecting use of ANY of the maps from 2142 in FS. Eeesh... that'd be pretty awful.  I was just saying in a "Day Two" setting, you can re-use a map with some things subtly changed such as wrecked buildings, moved capture points, added vehicles, switched from day/night.

lagueriniere I know it takes time, but I can't wait to see and download an updated map!

yeah that would be great. no need for the devs to start from scratch everytime.

Re: LAGUERINIERE(battle of hoth)

You guysa re taking this thread way off topic me thinks.

Your map is looking good man, I have a few more suggestions though.

1) Add some more elevation to the right side.
2) Add a little berm in front of the shield generator.
3) Add a little outpost north of the main hanger thing, middle of the map height wise.
4) Move the ATAT transports back a bit, maybe behind a hill to the north east/west?
