Topic: Use of Colors when texture painting

Another noob question regarding painting of the terrain.

When setting up your layers to paint the textures and detail you choose the texture, then the texture color (I am using FS textures and colors only). In the Tweak window under Layer 1 for example I picked rock as the texture, endor rock as the color. There is also a default color (black) that is available. You can also change from the default to any other color.

So, my question is can I use this as an addtional color as well? I have created rock texture using the endor rock color but can I also use this color option to give the mountain rock a more three dimesional look?

With 6 available layers, each having an optional color would then double my total colors avaiable. Is this correct?

Re: Use of Colors when texture painting

You can, one would be the texture color and one would just be the color color.

Fantastic! Thanks Imperial.

Re: Use of Colors when texture painting

If you really want to get detailed, you can also manually paint as many colors as you want onto the color texture using photoshop.  Unlike the detail texture, the color texture is not directly linked to layers.

You can also make a 4096x4096 map and split it in tpaint... That way you can paint roads or trails...burn marks on the ground or whatever in photoshop...

You can also hit the blue plus sign in the editor...in the tweak bar...
and import your own 512x512 .dds texture...

Re: Use of Colors when texture painting

Thanks again for the info guys. By the time I have this all figured out the CoD4 modding will be starting up lol.

This has changed my entire outlook on games in a way. I use to play and take the maps for granted, either cool looking or not. Now I am just looking around and appreciate the detail and the time people spend creating a quality piece of work.

Wish I would have started with the BF editor when it was first released. So much to learn.

I have experimented with TPaint and it is very nice for a fast terrain texture and paint. Used on my first map attempt. Now I'm just using the editor paint, learning the basics as you might say. If I go into another map attempt I will use them in conjunction with one another as it is a time saver. There are times when you need to manually blend areas to give a better visual effect.

Appreciate the Tuts CB, I can almost recite some them memory!
