If you are using Fat32 when playing BF games, REFORMAT TO NTFS IMMEDIETLY!!! (you can do this with the click of a button in a matter of minutes).

I've had lethal lockups both with BF2 and BF2142 (the BF2142 beta too, not to mention BFV and BF1942 but that was long ago). Mods has nothing to do with it, its the games extremely poor error handling. And by lethal, I dont just mean lockups that cause you to reboot. I mean lockups that CORRUPT YOUR HARDDRIVE and cause Windows to fail. Yes, I've had to reinstall Windows because of BF... That was with Fat32 however: NTFS is much more stable when it comes to recovering after an erronous shutdown.

Sidenote: For anyone freezing or such, you may want to try running the game in a window. It doesnt guarantee success, but you'll quickly see if the game freeze or if windows freeze and its always easier to quite the game. There is a stuttering issue with overlays though, dont want overlays popping up on BF lol.

I was always under the impression that Fat32 should be reserved for small storage devices such as USB keys for this very reason, daws.

i only have lockups when alt-tabbing, though i can clear them easily with ctrl-alt-del...

As we all know, turning off our pc, without shutting it down properly, can be potentially harmful to our precious hard drive...or even worse...it can be lethaL

Chances of damaging your hard drive because you turn off your computer after a fatal freeze is less than .1%.  Don't worry about it.  If you're running FAT32 of course, that's a different story.  Also, windowed mode NEVER results in a lethal lockup.
