Tactics for defeating the B-Wing fighter in space combat

The B-Wing is a hefty craft for any Imperial Navy fighter pilot to try and bring down.  I recommend NOT taking it head-on; ever.  If you ever see the B-Wing firing its trademark 3-laser salvo at you head-on, just juke left and try to fly right past the enemy to loop back behind him.

In most combat situations, you'll find yourself chasing down a B-Wing from behind, in a TIE Fighter.  The B-Wing will be concentrating on a capital ship.  The trick is to keep your distance from the B-Wing, so that you don't get in too close.  Aim for the section of wing connecting the cockpit to the engines only.  When you open up with lasers, rotate your ship in careful, 90 degree movements; if the B-Wing tries to juke slightly (I find they are too slow to try any crazy acrobatic evasion tactics) you can compensate and still get some hits.

What would you class the b-wing as? Fighter, Fighter Bomber or Bomber?

Only TIE Bombers are actual bombers: they can fly level with the land while dropping artillary bombardment straight-below them.

I would classify the B-Wing as an Assault Starfighter. Sacrificing some speed and maneuverability, it was designed for raw firepower with its many blasters, ion cannons, and complement of torpedoes. So it surely couldn't outfly or escape an A-Wing, but man does it pack a punch to TIE and capital-ships alike.

Only later did the Rebellion strike a better balance between firepower and agility, with the acquiring of the T-65 X-Wing Starfighter, though it did lack features like ion cannons and a large torpedo bay.
